If the lid is not dishwasher safe then how can it be safe to put in a hot oven?

I have not put mine in the oven but I did put the lid in the dishwasher and it did just fine.

How do you put the clips on the steamer ????

Very easy: Just squeeze them into position with small ammount of preassure.
