Excellent as an recording interface for Reaper
Ordered my model 24 on a saturday and received it on Monday. WOW, and the unit was perfect condition. I uploaded to the current 1.61 firmware with no issue after loading and formatting the SD card NOT included. Had No issue loading the driver and software. My unit was recognized immediately by reaper and my pc. Changed the PC master channel to channel 21/22 as the Tascam automatically selects channel 1 on the mixer by default. Still uses channel 1 for playback of computer sounds when not using the daw. Keep in mind, you have to change your thinking process when moving to this unit, the mixer is no longer on your computer screen. If you arent getting sound, you have to click the main, or turn up the control room pot etc. If Spl or Fpl is pressed, you wont hear anything from the control room. I use Windows 7/64, its rock solid and NO issues at all. I use Sub out left and right to run headphone monitors to my drum room and use the single headphone out for my phones on the control room. Get it, and DONT look back. :-)

Great unit!
Did a lot of research before purchasing. The marketing is a bit misleading hence 4 stars out of 5. Not a true 16 track unit. 8 mono tracks, plus doubled up stereo tracks (9/10, 11/12, 13/14 - which also incorporates recording/playback of aux & blue tooth connected devices and the master volume (master bus) serves as tracks 15/16 for playback.) In hindsight I wish I'd purchased the 24 track version of this so as to have 12 separate mono tracks. Having said all this, it makes excellent sounding recordings almost on a professional, commercial grade level. If you have any experience with previous tascam portastudios from the 90s onward, you'll be up and running in no time. Numerous helpful videos on YouTube. Overall, this is a far superior unit to the DP-24.

Works Great
Works great! Live recording and on the computer, was easy to setup and use, I like how easy is to export the tracks to the PC.This mixer is not a full porta studio but if you know what are you doing you can get anything done in the mixer.

Good idea not so good execution
Overall the Model 16 is a nice mixer. There are some weird contradictions in its design. I won't get into detailing these because I think overall this unit will work for people looking to record their bands. The recording section is flat clumsy and not really functional for anything but recording a live mix. Sure you can set punches, do light editing, bounce... but it takes too much time scroll through menus and everything loads, stops and starts very slow. Kills work flow. Most people will move to DAW to do recordings with alterations. I wanted to be able to use both effectively for different purposes. One of the biggest issues I had might be a small issue for others... the phones volume works in conjunction with the Mains out. When you mute the outs to hear the mix over the phones it cuts them off. Solo buttons would be nice on a mixer of this price and the CR outputs should be independent from the Main. A bit redundant to have both if they aren't independent. I don't write reviews very often but I thought I should given the shortcomings I found. I can see how this mixer would be good for people that just want to record their bands live and hear it back. The mixer sound and quality are decent and it is pretty simple to hit record and play back your recording through the board. If that's what you're after this board might be for you. The onboard effects are mediocre at best with no real parameter tweaking... other than time and they are VERY noisy which really surprises me. I sent one back because of the noise and the second one was exactly the same. Just half baked product IMO that could have been great with just a little more R&D.
