Flexible device for holding iPhone, minitablet, and tablets. I also use this to mount tablets to my dSLR hotshoe
Here's how I use it:Background: I occasionally take video with my iPhone while I shoot still photos with a dSLR. Typically I will hold my iPhone under or above the lens while shooting. I wanted a flexible inexpensive system in which I could mount the iPhone or other small video device atop the hot shoe of my camera.I started with theCamkix Hot Shoe Mount Adapter Kit - Attach your Phone or GoPro Hero to the Flash Mount of your DSLR Camera - Record your Photo Shoot or use Phone Apps for Lighting, Monitoring or Controllingfor $10.98 on amazon. I chose this overFotasy SCX2 1/4-Inch 20 Tripod Screw to Hot Shoe Adapter with Premier Cleaning Cloth (Black)for $5.69 on amazon because I also wanted the tilt adjustable bracket holder and $10.98 was a good price for the combo. The nice thing about the tilt connector is it allows me to align both the camera and the phone so they are centered over the same subject. Both parts are metal. No instructions, but it’s pretty intuitive if you’re used to working with tripod brackets. The hot shoe plate is 18x18mm which allows it to rotate within the 19mm wide camera hot shoe. Just tighten the screw nut to prevent motion. Don’t expect this inexpensive system to be firm. Torque from the weight of the iphone/tablet will loosen the connections if shooting handheld unless you use locktite. Generally fine on a tripod, but recheck the tightness of the connections from time to time. The phone holder that comes with the Camkix hotshoe mount adapter kit is spring loaded plastic. Stretched to its limit, take a fair amount of force using 2 hands, but it will hold an iPhone 7 plus with a thin case. The best way to insert and remove the phone from the bracket is to disconnect the phone holder from the tilt bracket and work on a flat surface so you don’t drop the phone. I use both hands to spread the bracket wide and gently work the 7 plus with slim case into the bracket. It is a tight fit. This bracket is better for phones measuring 2.25-2.5” in width by ¼” thickness (5.5-6.5cm in width x 0.5 cm thick). The problem with Camkix set up is that the phone projects above and behind the plane of the eyepiece and bumps my forehead when mounted with the phone display facing me. Not a problem for a GoPro facing forward. I decided I wanted to use alternate brackets with the Camkix hot shoe accessory.I think a better bracket to hold a 7 plus atop the Camkix hot shoe mount adapter kit isPhone Holder,by Ailun,Phone Tripod Mount Adapter,Compact,Universal for iPhone 7/6/6s,6/6s/7 Plus,SE/5s/5/5c,Samsung Galaxy S8/S7/S7 Edge,S6/S6 Edge,Note 5/4/3 and More Cellphone[Black]Though this one is also all plastic, it uses a screw mechanism to clamp 7 plus sized phones. It is much easier to use than the CamKix bracket and holds my phone securely. It will hold a 2.25-3.5” wide x 3/8” thick (6-7 cm wide x 1cm thick) device. I can mount the entire Ailun Phone Holder directly on the hotshoe to tripod screw or take the Ailun phone bracket and mount it on the Camkix tilt device. Or I can mount the entire Ailun device on the Camkix tilt device. Lots of flexibility in terms of offsetting the phone from the plane of the viewfinder. Easier to use than the spring loaded plastic phone holder that comes with the Camkix kitI also use theUlanzi iPad Tablet Tripod Mount Adapter Flexible Adjustable Clamp Tablet Holder for iPad Air Pro,Microsoft Surface and Most Tablets (5inch-12inch Screen)Etc.to hold either iPhone or mini tablets to my dSLR hotshoe. I can hold a tablet in the Ulanzi bracket, but the heavier the tablet on the hot shoe, the more unstable the setup is going to be, especially if doing this handheld. The Ulanzi is also all plastic, but is adaptable for holding phones, minitablets, and full sized tablets. Easily adjustable. There are two places which will accept the ¼”-20 threaded screws – one on the bottom, and a rotating adjustable position mount behind the clamp. The rotating part has click stops but has a little wobble making it a little less useful. I use this to hold my iPhone and tablet high above a long lens so the long lens isn’t visible in the video clip. I also mount this onto quick release plates and then mount it to my ballhead on tripod to easily adjust the position of tablets.Overall, I’m happy with all 3 devices. They give me the flexibility to decide which set up will be best to hold my iPhone, mini-tablet, Go Pro on the hot-shoe of my dSLR for whatever imaging set up I’m using. Inexpensive compared to spending much more for $80 really right stuff aluminum clamps and $50 manfrotto clamps which only accept ¼”-20 tripod screws without the hotshoe-1/4”-20 screw adapters and tilt devices.Warning: mount this to your SLR hot shoe at your own risk. SLR hotshoes are designed to hold small flashes and not bulky devices like iPhones and iPads.

Slightly unconventional use excellently achieved
I use this in a horizontal configuration instead of vertical, as displayed in the product's photos. And thanks to it having several tripod mounts, this was easy to do. My use case includes both a tablet (iPad) and a 9" Lilliput A8S field monitor (one at at ime, obviously) on a teleprompter rig. When using it with the iPad for text-based teleprompting, it holds the tablet very securely and doesn't cover any important buttons on the side.More often these days though, I use it to hold the field monitor so that I can look directly into the camera lens (throught the teleprompter) AND at the person/people on a teleconference call (Zoom, Teams, Skype, etc.) It works great for this purpose as well - which to be honest was the main reason I purchased it in hopes I wouldn't have to spend TIME and money fabricating something to serve this purpose. it was a major win!It is very versital in that you can move where the central mount is relative to the clamp, meaning you can center or skew (side-to-side) the screen in the prompter's reflector. I have totally ditched my original tablet clamp that came with the teleprompter and only use this unit. It is frustration free!I will say it is mostly plastic and feels a little flimsy/flexible in the hand but once mounted, it does a great job for me. I've included a couple of photos showing my use case, in case you're in the same boat and looking for a solution. Pardon the photography; it's phone based and I attempted to quickly highlight the actual Ulanzi mount (and darken the rest of the rig in the photo) so that you can find it in the mess of surrounding equipment. The field monitor is tilted back a little on purpose to eliminate its bezel showing up in the prompter's reflector from the talent's view several feet away. The Ulanzi is perfectly capable of holding the monitor flat if desired.I feel like this was a great purchase that saved me time and effort having to create a custom solution to what might have been an uncommon problem pre-COVID days. But with all the "Zooming" going on these days, I figure there might be more people than me attempting to figure out how to put the teleconference on a teleprompter so you don't have to look away to view a screen. If so, here ya go - problem solved and for a really decent price to boot. Hope this helps someone. Cheers!

Easy to use, sturdy, inexpensive
I own several of these and use them both in my business and in my professional life. It’s a great little holder for family zoom-ing with my iPad. I use them when I video for online painting courses.. I have one with an 11” iPad focused on my painting canvas; one with an 11” iPad focused on the painting subject; and one with an iphone 11Pro on a gooseneck extension to focus facing down on my palette area. To make me feel more secure for the last position, I make sure I place the phone in the holder with the middle bar on the bottom and the face of the phone facing up which also allows me to use the camera on the back of the phone so I can zoom out or in for perfect placement. This way I have 3 different views I can use in editing. I even have these on my list of favorite supplies on my website.

Not ideal due to the awkward rotation.
I've tested this with two different tripods of mine, and on both of them it tends to be a struggle.I have a Samsung S8 Tablet and wanted to use this for Tiktok. I have a fairly thin case around it with a cover flap. Despite not being particularly heavy, my tablet almost always tilts to the side where the flap is when I try to film vertically. The connection between the mount adapter and my tripods is not tight enough to prevent it from rotating on the spot of connection, no matter how much I try to tighten it. I've tried moving the center piece to change the center of balance with no luck, it always tilts towards the Tablet case's cover flap.Using the tablet without a case makes it somewhat easier to balance, but more often than not will still cause some unwanted tilt/rotation. For my silly Tiktok skits, I've sometimes managed to make it work, but not ideal. I'd imagine for a photographer, this rotating is a nightmare.

Perfect Holder for Both Mobile Phone & iPad
My requirement: I needed a stand that could hold a phone as well as an iPad, that is kept in front of me for a video recording of myself - about things I like to do. After searching for products, I realized that two products are needed separately, i.e., a tripod stand and a holder that can be connected to the tripod stand. This review is about the holder (also called an adapter). The tripod is to be purchased separately, and does not come with this holder.Strengths: This one holder can hold a mobile phone as well as an iPad in landscape and portrait orientation. Its size can be easily reduced and extended as per specifications mentioned on the website. I use it to hold my 5.5 inch by 3 inch phone and 8 inch by 5.5 inch iPad. It has two screw threads of standard size that allows it to connect easily with a standard tripod stand. To be sure, I first purchased the holder and checked at a store where tripods are available - whether it can be easily connected to the tripod. At both points where mobile/iPad touches the holder, sponge pads are there for protection. After mounting, the mobile/iPad remains in place and does not fall. Product is made of plastic, with good finishing & smooth operation. The three points to press for increasing / reducing the size of holder are all working fine at the moment. Upon receipt of product from Amazon, I did not find any problem in the make or quality.Weaknesses / concerns: I have just begun to use the product. Initially, I felt that the mobile/iPad would fall down on the ground after placing on the holder. But if put in place with care, this would not happen. One needs to understand, practice & carefully increase / reduce the size of holder after placing the mobile/iPad. Yes, it is true that the protection (back) covers of mobile/iPad have to be removed before placing on the holder, because the back covers make the mobile/iPad slightly thick and do not allow the mobile/iPad to be securely connected to the holder. If back covers are not removed, the mobile/iPad would fall down on the ground. Also, my Moto G (3rd generation) phone (a 2015 product) is a little curved on the back side which makes it thicker (even without the cover). This cannot be fitted on the holder due to its thickness, so I use another phone which is slimmer. However, nowadays, all phones are slim and can be easily fitted to the holder. I hope this product remains in good shape even after several years of use. Please check your mobile/iPad dimensions before you buy this product.Few previous national / international reviews look down upon this product, but I think it's worth a buy, and thanks to Ulanzi (of China) for manufacturing this nice product that meets my requirement !

Very very cheap quality plastic mount.
This is a very cheap quality chinese plastic tablet mount which is absolutely not justifiable for its price tag of Rs 1090.I never gave 1 star review to any product, but this one deserves 0 star, for its poor sturdiness and quality. My tablet size is of 12.9 inch, and at the time of writing this review, no other tablet mount for 12.9 inch ipad pro is available on amazon except for this one,so i have to buy this.If your ipad is less than 12.9 inch, avoid this one and go for other mounts that are available in just Rs 200 to 300 on amazon
