I do wish there was a version of these that costs a bit more that had aluminum in place of plastic for some of the pieces most likely to be under stress (ear cup hinge pins, pressure fitting for the ear extenders) so I'm giving them 4 stars for material. Then I realized I don't really need the noise canceling feature, so I broadened my search to other headphones and ran into the Klipsch Reference series. I first ordered the on-ear version, which was $50 cheaper, but found it to be uncomfortable to wear for a long period due to the pressure it put on my ears. So I decided to return the on-ear pair and got the over-ear and I am very happy with my decision. I found out that the drivers in these pairs are different from those that are in the on-ear version which justified the price difference. (I am not sure why Klipsch doesn't emphasizes this more, at first it seemed like an extra $50 for different shapes of the ear cushions) I read some complaints online about the bass being weak, but I think those might be coming from people used to headphones with a bass boost. I am no audiophile, but in my opinion the sound of the Kilpsch reference is very well balanced and the bass is precise. I own Klipsch speakers and love the sound. I have owned the Klipsch computer speakers and wish I had not changed them out. Material: For the price, one may have metal head pieces instead of the plastic material Klipsch provides. The ear cups are small for an over the ear headphone. Th Klipsch ear cups are smaller than the Sony, Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser HD 598 and the AKG product pictured. While comfortable, the small size is an not favorable characteristic. The headphone cable is a thin wire that does not lock into the headphone. The manufacturer does not supply a 3.5 mm connector. I find the cable a little short for my tastes. Sound: I am impressed with the neutral aspects of this headphone. For a closed back product, the sound reproduction is pleasing. These compared well with the Beyerdynamic product. I find the sound more accurate than the Sennheiser HD 598. The Klipsch product lacks a little to me while listening to classical music with the AKG headphone pictured. My preference in headphones is an accurate sound reproduction while no emphases on a particular sound frequency. If you tastes are inclined to base frequency enhancement, you might want to look at other brands. The case fits the headphones.
