I can't say enough good things about Rocksmith
I got this for my daughter to go with her new Epiphone guitar. She's learning a lot faster than I expected, and sounds WAY better after a month or so than I did when I was first learning how to play. The program is simple: you pick a song and it starts out totally simple, with a single note here and there. Each run through, it adds notes and eventually chords until it reaches the full version (not that she's gotten there yet, but that's the idea anyway). The game (is it even a game? I don't think of it as a game...) also has a ton of tutorials that teach pretty much all the basics. This thing is great for a beginner, even someone who has never picked up a guitar. I'm sure it would be great for more intermediate-types, especially if you want to work on leads (it has a selection for rhythm or lead guitar, as well as bass). I haven't tried it myself yet, but even for someone like me who's been playing since the stone age would probably have a good time. There's some cool songs that are fun to play, and with this you get to play with the full band in your living room. Beats the crap out of plastic guitars, you know?

Best self teaching method
I like this because all you need is a guitar and a game system. When you first turn it on it will ask if you've ever played before. If you say yes then you can instantly begin learning to play from a library of songs. Or you can play with your buddy. At first it will give you only some notes. If you can play it well they will give you more until you can play the entire song.If you've never played then the game will show you everything. How to hold your guitar, pick, and even how to tune. The best part is the feedback. The game will tell you your playing the wrong string or to move up or down the fret to catch the right note. You can change the settings to learn faster or slower. The guitarcade is a gaming area where you use your guitar to play games as you learn techniques and practice chords.Don't worry though if the old videos are what taught you best they still have them but at the end of each lesson it requires a small "quiz" to show your proficiency level. There is no "story" to follow. The game will show you things to learn but you choose what to learn and when. The only negative I have found with the game is your instrument must be well tuned to play. I've had each of my instruments set up by a guitar tech or luthier to ensure proper play. This prevents many problems. Keeping you guitar in good shape is a must!!! Before you buy a new cord have your guitar electronics cleaned and adjusted

Fun
His game is really really fun and very challenging. The only thing I can say against the game as it’s not supported anymore, you can’t buy songs and DLC’s for it anymore but other than that, it is a really fun game/learning tool.

Good for all guitarist but DO YOUR RESEARCH.
This is a great tool for any guitarist aspiring or seasoned. The problems are abundant from the start, at least in the PlayStation 4 version. I will try to explain what it took to get it working probably. So I order this after a friend (who owns it on computer) recommended it. Now truth be told I trusted the friend and did not do my research on this version. It was on sale on the PlayStation store for $5.99. That being said I purchased a USB/guitar cable separately (not the Realtone version). Needless to say it didn’t work. Upon searching for the correct cable which is REQUIRED TO PLAY, I found out it was quite expensive. So I made the decision to repurchase the game with the cable because it was cheaper than buying the cable alone. So I got the disc and the REAL TONE cable. First thing after installing it I realized that the game, although sold as new from Ubisoft, was used, the code for extra songs that came with my game was “already used”. Then starting the game with the Realtone cable, it worked-ish. It was extremely delayed. Further research spotlighted a flaw in the game, audio delay due to the HDMI cable. Long story short I had to buy a audio converter (relatively cheap) to take the optical audio out of the PlayStation (back) to red/white audio then to 1/8” normal aux input to any speakers. It sounds complicated but it’s not. I have studio type monitors that worked, I also tried out to a sound bar but it was still delayed. You need quality speakers or monitors. I then had to mute the tv and change the PS4 setting to optical out, linear PCM. That setup gives you ZERO delay. Once that is ready you can enjoy the many features this game has. Is it worth it, yes if you don’t want to pay for expensive traditional lessons, it’s an inexpensive way to get started as it teaches ALL THE BASICS OF GUITAR. Even strap setup, stumming, pick use, all the way up to advance scales and chords. It just takes a lot of extra stuff to make this work and it seems Ubisoft has ignored this fact and put out a less than ready product and allowed the general public to fix their problems that should have been remedied before the it was released. So the credit goes to community of innovative people not willing to settle on a half-a**** product release. Also plays better with humbuckers instead of single coils pickups.
