Highly recommended if u’re looking for English reference book. Bought the other 2 books as well. Perfect reference for my daughter who will be taking IGCSE soon.

This is the BEST book is for the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE English Literature PAPER 1: Poetry and Modern Prose. I got this for my daughter and she’s been reading it whilst they covered in school the 16 poems from the Anthology. It only covers the 16 x poems from the Anthology. In the Exam Paper this is the Poetry section which is 30 marks out of 90. However, it can really help with the Unseen Poem analysis as well (same type of analysis just another unknown poem) which can earn you another 20 marks out of the total 90. The book can really help you achieve the full marks on the Poetry section. If you ignore the background on the poet and the type of poem page (just read once for general knowledge), you get 2 to 3 pages of analysis per poem (depending on how long each poem is, some are very short). But that is plenty for what is expected for the exam. Combined with reading some past paper, you can easily achieve a 9. This book has been extremely helpful for my granddaughter to get to grips with some complex elements of poetry. Highly recommend.

I am not sure why the reviews are quite low. But, as a IGCSE student I found all 4 of her books extremely helpful. The way the analysis is structured, and organised makes it super easy to understand. I know some may want the actual text to be included, to look back it, but it doesn’t bother me. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase.

Great explanation

Helps you understand the poem along with devices and interpretations. Doesn't cover every single linguistic/structural device and interpretation but it still does well.
