A Solid, Dealer-Level Diagnostic Tool for DIYers and Pros Alike
I’ve been using the Xtool D7s diagnostic tablet for a few weeks now, and I can confidently say it has exceeded my expectations in almost every way. Whether you're a weekend DIYer or a more serious automotive enthusiast, this tool offers an impressive level of functionality and insight. Pros: Extremely User-Friendly: From the moment you power it on, the interface is intuitive and responsive. I didn’t have to hunt through menus or manuals — everything is right where you expect it to be. Well-Built and Comfortable: The tablet itself is sturdy and has a solid feel. It’s easy to hold, even for extended periods while working in or around a vehicle. Great Battery Life: Out of the box, it was delivered at 75% charge and held power impressively through multiple long sessions of use. It’s reassuring not to be tied to a charger when working. Thoughtful Packaging: The D7s comes in a durable, long-term storage case that feels like it was designed for real-world use. Everything has its place, and the case protects the device and accessories well. Tested Across Multiple Vehicles: I ran full diagnostics on a 2020 Honda CRV, 2019 Scion TC, 2022 Ram 1500, 2021 Toyota Rav4, and 2015 Nissan Sentra. The Xtool D7s performed flawlessly with each, providing detailed reports and system scans across the board. RAM 1500 Note: For RAM 1500 models equipped with a Secure Gateway, you’ll need to purchase an AutoAuth license (approximately \$60/year at the time of writing) to access diagnostic features. Additionally, an internet connection is required during diagnostics to authenticate through AutoAuth. Once set up, the access is seamless and opens up full system visibility. Goes Beyond Just ECM: What impressed me most was the depth of insight — it doesn't stop at basic engine codes. You get transmission, ABS, airbag, TPMS, and even live data streams in some cases. Professional-Level Reporting: The reports resemble what you’d get from a dealership. They're clean, comprehensive, and easily saved or shared. This makes it easier to track issues over time or provide proof if you're helping someone else. Consistent Email Support: Vendor support via email was reliable and thorough. Responses were always complete and helpful, even if they came with a bit of a delay (see cons below). Cons: Update Overload at First Boot: Be prepared to install over 200 updates upon initial setup. It’s time-consuming but necessary to get everything up to speed. Licensing Concerns: While the frequent updates are great for staying current, they become a potential drawback if you don’t renew the license after three years. Without it, the tool may fall behind quickly. Report Confusion: There are two types of reports — "Standard" and "Diagnostic Code". If you accidentally save a Diagnostic Code report when there are no active issues, it will still show a yellow warning symbol, which can be misleading at first glance. Just make sure to review the actual report details. Time-Zone Delay in Support: Email support appears to operate on CST, so if you're in another U.S. time zone, responses may not be immediate. Expect overnight replies rather than real-time support. Final Thoughts: Despite a few quirks, the Xtool D7s delivers a premium diagnostic experience at a fraction of dealership costs. Its user-friendliness, durability, in-depth diagnostic capabilities, and professional reporting make it a fantastic investment for anyone serious about vehicle maintenance. The added need for an **AutoAuth license** and internet connectivity for certain newer vehicles (like the RAM 1500) is worth noting, but it’s part of modern vehicle security — and the D7s handles it smoothly once set up. Highly recommended!

Amazing Tool!
I couldn’t be happier with the XTOOL D7S. The scanner was easy to set up, the interface is intuitive, and it has already paid for itself by helping me avoid trips to the dealership. I purchased it primarily for my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado, and it has performed flawlessly. It was able to access all major modules, perform bidirectional tests, and most importantly put the electronic parking brake into service mode for brake maintenance. It also provides maintenance resets, parking brake functions, and detailed system scans. It also worked great on my wife's 2019 Nissan Altima! The speed of the scans and the amount of information available are impressive for a tool in this price range. Whether you’re diagnosing a warning light, checking module data, performing service functions, or running active tests, the D7S handles it with ease. What really stood out was XTOOL’s customer service. Questions were answered quickly and professionally, and it’s reassuring to know support is available when needed. If you’re a DIYer or someone who wants professional-level diagnostic capabilities without spending thousands of dollars, I highly recommend the XTOOL D7S. It has exceeded my expectations and has become one of my favorite tools in the garage

Great Support ~ Excellent Diagnostics ~ It’s a Keeper
With so many OBD-II scanners on the market, it can be a daunting task to select the right tool. My approach was to consider a few factors, all of which culminated in my decision to go with the XTOOL D7S. -Factor 1 (Support): Not all scanners can perform every diagnostic function for all vehicles. Thus it’s important to verify your specific vehicle(s) with customer service as the first step in order to determine whether or not the tool can do what you want it to. -XTOOL excelled in this area of support, they were the only scanner company out of 8 that replied to my email inquiry within 12 hours. After establishing contact with XTOOL, my follow-on inquiries were answered by “Jenny” in just a matter of hours, even on the weekend. They were honest and informative. -Factor 2 (Diagnostic Capabilities): I was experiencing intermittent drivability issues on my 5.7 Jeep. Loud clunking sounds at low speed, loss of forward momentum (felt like the driveshaft was disconnected), dash lit up with traction control and ABS lights and a warning to service the ABS and 4x4 systems. -The D7S proved its weight in gold as it positively identified a faulty left/rear wheel speed sensor. Live-Data showed 3 wheels at 25 mph and the left/rear wheel at 0 mph, while in Park, the 3 good sensors reflected 0 mph and the faulty sensor reflected 8,191 rpm. The D7S displayed 4 related DTC’s, all of which resulted from the faulty wheel speed sensor. -Ordered an OEM wheels speed sensor, installed it and an hour and $48 later, my Jeep was driving like new. -Factor 3 (Cost): The D7S is pricy compared to allot of inexpensive scanners, but the D7S is not an inexpensive scanner. It’s a quality tool. It’s fast, easy to use and has the potential to pay for itself after just one use. Plus, it’s well supported. -I’m impressed with XTOOL, both their products and support. Unlike some other companies that only provide annual scanner updates, XTOOL has their head in the game and provides monthly updates with just the push of a button. You can really tell that XTOOL is a company who’s really committed to their customers and product development.

Great scanner, just need to figure it out
I've had this scanner for a couple of months. My 2011 Avalanche wouldn't start so I put my older scanner on it and ordered some parts. I put in a new fuse/relay not it, a new pcm and tried the 30 minute key learn, turns over but fuel pump doesn't run. Put in a new fuel pump control module, not it. Studied some more and found out in 2011 GM changed the theft prevention to control both the starter and the fuel pump and the 30 minute key learn procedure doesn't work. So, I ordered the D7S. When it came the key learn program for my truck wasn't installed yet. About a week later it was installed in an update. It didn't work and today I found out it might not have worked because there is an eeprom adapter and cables that I might need. Has to do with the GM security codes for their keys. I'm going to get those and try again. I get 3 to 6 updates every 2 or 3 days for this. The sellor offered to refund my money but this scanner does so much for so many different vehicles I'm keeping it and hope to get it to work on my truck.

Avoid $150+ dealer charges to scan and solve many issues yourself
The xTool D7S packs "big shop" power into a portable, affordable tablet. It bridges the gap between basic code readers and thousand-dollar professional units. The D7S includes several advanced features typically reserved for premium scanners like Autel or Snap-On: Full Bi-Directional Control: You can perform over 4,000 active tests, such as cycling the fuel pump, testing A/C clutches, or operating windows and wipers to verify hardware without turning a wrench. Advanced ECU Coding: Usually a high-tier feature, the D7S supports online and offline coding for a wide variety of US and foreign produ ed automobiles and trucks; both gas and diesel. I have experienced it's quality performance on a number of automibles and a 6.6 Duramax as well as a current hybrid. It doesn't just read engine codes; it accesses every module in the vehicle (ABS, SRS, Transmission, TPMS) for deep-level troubleshooting. 39+ Special Functions are available from ABS bleeding and injector coding to crankshaft relearn and key programming, it handles complex maintenance tasks that cheaper tools simply can't. Summary: If you want professional-grade diagnostics—including 3 years of free updates and a fast Android 10 interface—without the four-figure price tag, I found that the D7S is the best value on the market.

From UNBOXING to Features.
This review will delve deeply into the performance of this scan tool, so check back as I embark on this journey with it. I received the order overnight and was eager to unveil this device. Upon opening both the Amazon package and the manufacturer's box, it immediately impressed with its screaming quality. It's worth mentioning that as a DIY enthusiast, I've invested in scan tools ranging from $40 to $200. However, none even in the $200-$300 range even come close to matching the quality of this one including the carrying case. I own a 2000 BMW Z3 2.8 and a 2021 Lexus L5500. So the date range of vehicles will also be interesting to see if this tool covers that range. Check back as I continue the review..... Well the operation is not as good as the outward quality. I couldn't read the BMW VIN and constantly gave me the error message that the unit was not communicating. On the Lexus it did do an auto scan but when I went into the manual scan of the BMS it again gave me the "no communications" error message. Emailed the vendor 3 times and got a message back that they don't work weekends and US working hours. It seems the help center is in China and not US-based. So if you're in a regular-hours job here and you need tech support your out of luck. Sending it back and looking at an Autel unit.

The XTOOL D7S OBD2 scanner is hands down one of the best investments you can make. It’s powerful and a reliable diagnostic tool. This car scanner has quickly become one of my favorite devices in my professional workflow. It’s fantastic to DIY as well due to its ease of use and user-friendly interface. The automotive scanner has a stand that holds it upright, which is great during use and tucks away flush. The carrying case is strong, well-padded, and keeps everything protected and organized. As a bidirectional scan tool, it offers an impressive range of controls and active tests. Programming new keys and TPMS sensors is very straightforward, which saves a lot of time compared to other tools I’ve used. Absolutely essential tool! Successfully coded a used towing module on my 2014 Audi Q7
I bought this scanner specifically to code a used towing package module that I purchased for my 2014 Audi Q7. As many Audi owners know, dealing with module replacement and coding can be a nightmare without the right factory-level tool. This scanner handled the adaptation and coding flawlessly. Without it, I wouldn’t have been able to get the towing system recognized by the car, which would have completely ruined our upcoming vacation plans since we couldn't have hooked up our camper. It saved me a costly trip to the dealership and a massive headache. If you need to do advanced coding or module setup on an Audi, this is worth every penny. Ialso used this to diagnose a starting issue on my 2014 Audi Q7. It allowed me to check both the low-pressure and high-pressure fuel pumps, as well as monitor the fuel rail pressure in real-time. Being able to verify the fuel system's performance accurately saved me a ton of guesswork. It's a must-have tool if you're doing your own fuel system diagnostics
