What paintbrush/s would work best with these pencils?

For my water soluble graphite pencils I use soft craft paintbrushes. I have three of them: 0ne inch, 1/2 inch and a rigger.  I find that the soft brushes, not sable, work better than a stiff brush in washing the graphite into a shape.  What is equally  important to me is the paper.  I use watercolor paper, #140 or Bristol board, any thing that is strong enough so that the paper does not wrinkle or break through with the water. emb

How do they blend with regular graphite pencils? I’m a graphite artist looking to add some color; nothing seems to blend right with them.

Accepted Answer

Regular (dry) graphite should be very compatible with graphitint as they share the same distinctive silvery-gray appearance.  I can envision using the dry graphite for strong shadows and strong lines as the dry won't dissolve with water.  Keep in mind that the graphitint may not fully answer your needs for color as the colors are very muted.  (Ex. The "red" graphitint is more like maroon.) When I want to mix color in my graphite drawing, I lightly erase my graphite so that something like colored pencil doesn't pick up particles of graphite, dirtying the color.

hello. I am looking for a good pencil for laying down an underdrawing for a watercolor painting. would you recommend these? thank you for your help.

These are watercolor pencils, so the marks will bleed, but not 100%. Some of the initial lines could still be there. I think these are the most amazing colors of any pencils I've seen. Melancholy and subdued. I love them and would recommend them for everything, but just realize they will "participant" in your subsequent color washes.
