Better and safer litter option that works great
Thus walnut litter is nit perfect, but itโs safer and healthier than clay and gel crystals. My cats have serious allergies and need something safer so this litter does the trick. It definitely kicks up a ton of litter dust. It gets everywhere where the litter box is enclosed, even to the walls and baseboards around it. So be mindful of the dust. But itโs better than breathing in clay dust. It does track as well. I see trails of this litter everywhere but not as bad as clay. I donโt think thereโs anything truly dust free or track free. The reason I continue to buy this is because my cats allergies from the old clay is gone. They donโt sneeze after using the box anymore. The clumping isnโt like clay clumping however, it does clump well enough to not waste this litter too. As far as odor, I feel if they have a stinky poo you smell it monastery what you use. I do not smell pee at all though. Overall I recommend this after 10 years of nasty clay litters Price at the time of review 19.98 (on sale) normally 28.99

I wish I found this sooner. I have always had granular and I've been fed up for so long about how much my cat tracks it. I've tried a few brands over the years. I assumed that any kind of pellets the pee would just puddle at the bottom and be messy. Im used to really fragrant nice smelling ones. That part I miss. But no more tracking!! I've been doing so much less vacuuming. This isn't messy at all. You need to stay on top of scooping of course like with anything. But man this stuff works. Dries out the poop hardly smell it. They do get crumbly and wet looking after being saturated but no puddles at the bottom. My cat does pee at the very back or corner of the littler and doesnt seem to step or drag that part out. So that's good. Or it's not sticking to him. I do find more than a couple pellets right outside the box but before the granular was being tracked for several feet and all over my house really. So glad I switched. If your are too save some of your old litter and mix it in the frist time so they can smell it.

Nikola's favorite
Best litter ever. I've used this for 10 years, now.. whenever I run out and have to get some other kind as a last second replacement (corn based, crystals, even tried free wood chips from TGP once) Niko nor i are pleased with the results. This stuff does create some dust but just don't aggressively run the scooper through it and don't sift it more than an inch or two from the surface of the litter. It doesn't create much dust when she is scratching around inside her box, but I still clean it daily with H0CL. And instead of covering her box, which cats hate, I designated the towel rack for it in the bathroom and threaded a sheer curtain onto that rack instead, which I tuck under the box and litter catching mat. This way she has some privacy without feeling enclosed and the curtain catches some of the smell and the small amount of airborne dust she kicks up. And washing it is obviously easier than cleaning a litter box house or piece of converted furniture. Who keeps their towels in the bathroom anyway... ew. Anyway, this stuff clumps well- just be gentle when cleaning it so it doesn't crumble into 100 unstoppable pieces, and it has the best scent- all natural, no extra crap.. yet somehow masks odors better than any other brand. I do clean her box daily, though, which is important. You wouldn't want to have to step through 2 days of your own excrement, now would you?

The best litter we have tried to date... try it, you won't regret it!
After 40+ years of owning cats, from a kid to an adult with kids, I have to say I wish I would have found, & been willing to try, this product much, much sooner! Over the years we have used nearly every litter on the market: - regular clay litter (almost anything is better), - shredded paper (just don't) - clumping clay (many, many varieties & brands, some pretty darn good, & while some are a little better, all are dusty to some extent). This was always the fall-back-to product when our other (no longer used) preferred products were unavailable but we always sought something better because of the dust & need to clean the box more frequently to prevent odors or nasty solid one-chunk boxes (if forgotten or put off). - pine (tried once, that was enough) - wheat based (not bad, still dusty but tended to leave a "musty" smell). Tried couple of brands, always similar. - alfalfa pellets (ie rabbit feed). Less tracking but very, very musty odor. - corn based (this was our previous favorite until we couldn't get our favorite brand -- $pecial Kitt* -- anymore). Tried three brands, some are still available but there are differences in dust levels, smell/scents, & effectiveness). Also tried non-medicated poultry feed (might be a very feasible & economical option for some but wasn't for us). Tracking was a little worse will some brands than others. - lastly (I don't think I missed any others we have tried -- not we haven't tried, nor will we, silica based cyrstals) there is NATURALLY FRESH (walnut based). So, why is this walnut based product so good you ask? Well... After testing for for almost three months now, we have found this is truly the litter with the least 'in-use' ODOR (ALMOST NO ODOR) & no bothersome artificial/overwhelming scents. We have left it a little too long a couple of times yet it didn't overpower my wife's over-sensitive, & over-reactive, nose. It CLUMPS VERY WELL (we have tried the blue & green clumping ones so far) and fortunately it doesn't turn into one solid box clump (if it is left too long between scoopings)! When cleaning the box, the clumps do break apart more than some other clumping products but this also helps minimize box cling-tos & thus makes for easier scooping. TRACKING IS LESS (not sure why as they are smaller particles) AND this product has the LEAST AMOUNT OF DUST we have ever seen in a litter to date! Low dust is important to us as litter box is in the basement utility room where our power vented water heater is also located (too much dust coats the power vent/fan/vacuum tube, causing the water heater to fail & throw fault codes that require the whole assembly to need a good high blowout cleaning to become operational again). Try & let you wife have a cold morning shower in a Saskatchewan winter & see how fast you'll want a different litter! Initial price is more (even on sale) yet wait... THIS LITTER LASTS a very, very, VERY LONG TIME! With other litters, we were scooping once/twice a week & topping up with fresh litter (for one cat) & we had to do a full box change out every 3-4 weeks. Coming up to three months, we have still not needed to do a complete change out & still no odor (of the three 14lb bags purchased, we just opened the second bag a little more than two weeks ago!)!! With any other litter, we would have gone through a lot more already (typically more than one equivalent sized bag every three weeks). Thus WE ARE DEFINITELY SAVING MONEY OVERALL (when getting this on sale). To summarize, 'Naturally Fresh' walnut based litter lasts an extremely long time, has very little dust, practically no smell with little 'in-use' odor, clumps decently without sticking excessively to the box, little tracking, & best of all, costs less in the long run (due to long lasting nature). Update One: 02/09/12: So we have definitely noticed differences between The Green vs Blue bags. Definitely prefer the Green as seems to work better for odor control (Blue also seems to clump harder, and becomes a solid one-clump box much sooner). I have order pending for the Red bag (not sure when I'll get though as it is showing non-stocked at Amazon--dangit!) & the Purple bag (pellets - that will arrive sooner) so will update again after testing each new colour. Update Two: 06/06/18: Have now thoroughly tried the Purple (pellets) bag. Might be an option if one wanted to scoop daily (not us), insists on all natural product/limiting additives that allow for clumping (not us), or is willing to deal with the odor when not scooped daily (definitely not us). Thus, the Green bag is still number one for us but we are now testing the Red bag (update to follow). Update Three: 08/05/18: Red bag almost finished. Clumping was comparable to the Green bag however the odor control seemed... slightly different, almost had a slight musty odor at times (yet we are not sure if this has anything to do with heavy central air use over last month-ish). Thus, we still prefer the Green bag but the Red is a runner up that we may re-try in winter time. As for next bag, we have a Green one so may get to re-try it while the air conditioning is being used more.

NEVER GOING BACK
Okay, so here's my litter story. When I got my 2 cats a year and a half ago, I used your typical clay clumping litter. It handled smell well, but I was going though SO much litter and was spending SO much money - not to mention the dust, tracking, and toxins in clay clumping litter. After a month, I knew I had to move on to something else! My next try was Yesterday's News, which I used for the majority of the time I've spent owning my cats. I was overall happy with this litter - much less expensive, didn't track at all, no dust (and it's made from recycled newspaper so it's natural), but the odor control was not great ( I still think everyone should try this litter, because I think it may work better for other people). Over time I realized I needed to change up my litter system, again. Next, I went to pine pellets I got from Tractor Supply Company and the Tidy Cat Breeze litter system (sifting). By far, the cheapest litter ever ($6 for 40 pounds - a bag lasted me 3 months with 2 cats). Pretty good control over tracking and non-toxic (yay!). Was pretty happy with this, but again, not great odor control - cleaning this twice a day my eyes would burn because of the ammonia. I was surprised by this because most people say it is great with odor control - not for me! I began to wonder if something was wrong with my cats' health because the smell was so bad. My partner is also allergic to pine, so hard to stick with this option. After the bag ran out, I again decided I needed to change my litter. Now, to the present. I decided to give this litter a try. I hesitated originally because of the price point (after spending $6 for a 3-month period, this is a big difference), but decided that if this helped with odor control, it would be worth it. Opening the bag, I immediately was happy with the smell, and after the cats first trip to the littler box, and consecutive trips after, I was pleasantly surprised - NO SMELL. And when I went to scoop at the end of the day - NO SMELL, NO BURINING EYES. FINALLY! My best description of this litter when scooping is that it's a little bit like damp sand at the beach - very easy to scoop, not a huge chore, and seems to have good absorption. This litter does track a little (it is clumping), but not to the point where I'm finding it throughout my house and in my bed like clay clumping litter. Anyway, I would much rather do a little extra vacuuming every time I clean the littler box then have my eyes burning. Also, not a lot of litter goes to waste every time I scoop like other clumping litters. I am hoping the bag lasts me a while so I'm not spending a fortune on litter, and will update once I get to that point! So far, I definitely recommend this litter!!
