Definitely worth it, though not self contained...
Summary: A great resource to help teach your kids subtraction, but it's strictly a book of exercises, drills, etc. No replacement for one on one teaching. We have our first grader working on this - she does one page each night along with her regular homework. The first dozen or so pages were subtraction review. Then it starts to get tougher. For example, 43-17 = 26 where you have to carry the tens. She was having some trouble, but after slowly walking her through a few problems she picked it up right away. In terms of skill level it's fairly well correlated to what the public schools target as the grade level outcomes - this is clearly a year advanced of what her school is teaching at first grade level, but a half year head start can't be bad and it certainly wasn't beyond her capabilities. The repetitive nature of the exercises in this book really helps. We highly recommend it! If you've found this review helpful or have questions/comments, please let us know!

Good practice
My 7 yo daughter is more confident doing subtraction at school after starting this workbook. It helps her concentrate better while doing math homework. At first, she could only do 3 problems at a time without looking around and getting up from her chair. The more she works on this book, the longer she's able to concentrate and the more problems she's able to finish. It's like she's figuring how to do it faster in her own ways without me nagging her.

Best math workbook!
I purchased all three books on 2nd grade math (Addition, Subtraction and Word Problems) for my daughter when she was at her summer break before entering 2nd grade. We practiced almost every day and by the time she started her classes at school she knew how to add and subtract 3-digit numbers with confidence. These work books are excellent alternative to expensive Kumon classes. It's mid October and we are almost done with the second grade Addition, Subtraction and Word Problems. She scored above average at her school as a result whereas before she couldn't add even 1-digit numbers without using her fingers. I'm very satisfied with her progress within such a short period of time. Will continue buying these books. Highly recommended!

I got this book for my 7yo twin daughters who are in Year 2. Overall this book matches their abilities quite well. As all KUMON books this one is rather repetitive -- 30-40 similar problems per page. On the other hand, if your child can cope with this you can expect marked improvement in their mathematical skills by the time the book is finished. The essential part is to start early, so you child(ren) get used to idea of doing one set of problems per day. I started giving them books from KUMON since they turned 4, so by now doing homework is part of their life. Definitely it is worth offering some kind of reward once the book is completed. So, if your child can managed routine work for building the skills I definitely recommend this book.
