These rivet nut tools are worth there weight in gold.
These rivet nut installers are awesome. I used them on an inner fender to mount my winch switch and they did the job perfectly. They come with a step drill bit which makes the job so easy. They are small in size so they work really well in tight spaces and that’s what I had. Drill the right size hole and install the rivet nut on the tool and a couple of wrenches and tighten it up and then unscrew the tool from the rivet nut and the job is done.

Tips I learned
Below are tips I have learned from using this tool. Related to smaller size M4 and below. Installation process: 1. Grip the large nut with a wrench. Hold the wrench to prevent the large nut from rotating. The large nut has a bearing inside to prevent the rivnut from rotating during the tightening process. 2. Thread the rivnut onto the bolt. Get it finger tight. Finger tight will be the starting point for step #3. 3. Use an allen wrench (or equivalent tool) to tighten the bolt 2.0-2.5 full turns (720-900 degrees). 4. Done. Exceeding 2.5 turns will result in: - Bolt breaking - Head stripping - Warped threads from too much upward pressure inside the rivnut. Recommended add-ons: - Extra strong socket head bolts. McMaster item 91290A176 has grade 12.9 steel. Treat the M4 bolts as a consumable item. Need to replace an M4 bolt every 5-10 rivnuts. One can pull the old bolt out of the large nut's bearing fairly easily. - Wiha 71397 hex bit set has excellent tolerances to prevent cam-out. Make sure to have a socket wrench that fits the Wiha bits. The socket wrench will provide enough leverage when tightening the 2.0 - 2.5 turns. Additional info: - I wanted to find an M4 bolt with a hex head (instead of a socket head). A hex head bolt (tightened with a regular socket head driver) could handle the torque much better than a tiny hex insert bit. Unfortunately I couldn't find an M4 hex head bolt with high strength steel. - Do NOT use an impact driver on smaller M4 sizes! Need to hand tighten M4 sizes. I broke so many M4 bolts with an impact driver. - Other reviewers have pictures of broken bolts. This was from tightening past 2.0-2.5 turns. - Using the steps above will work with stainless steel rivnuts. Don't need to get brass, although I'm sure brass is a little more forgiving. - Overall, I am impressed with the tool. The stepper drill bit included in the box was a big help also.

Excellent tool for jack and rivet nuts
This tool works pretty well for both jack and rivet nuts. (originally submitted Dec 2021 as 5 star, Updated and dropped one star in Jun 2023) The positive: I can insert nuts in tighter spaces that I can with a standard lever based tool. One of the biggest advantages is that one can buy different length bolts at many hardware stores. This makes it possible to use with the various lengths of jack nuts that are available. And you can replace the bolts cheaply if they get fouled up. I have stripped some bolts using stainless rivet nuts. The negative: After a few dozen 6 mm stainless jack nuts were set I found that the surface of the tool would not hold the jack nut from turning. So I couldn't set the jack nut. The conical center isn't big enough and apparently the surface got slicker. I finally put some fine sand on the surface of the jack nut and that helped some. But it took multiple attempts to get the nut fully set. I tried a rivet nut and still seem to work ok. But I needed jack nuts for the soft aluminum plate I was working with. I have since noticed one other brands has a scored surface on the bottom of the bearing tool. I would expect that to work better.

Good product. Gets the job done
This kit works well for manual riv nut installation. If your looking for a cheaper way to install riv nuts then this tool is for you.

did not include the correct drill bit
I have never used rivet nuts before, so I chose this kit because it has almost everything needed to use them, (you have to supply an open end wrench and an allen type wrench). It arrived with the plastic case badly broken and unusable. More importantly the step drill bit shown in the picture goes up to 13mm which is needed to install the largest rivet nuts in the set. My set had a bit with a maximum size of 12mm. I returned the set and promptly received a replacement but the second set also had a 12mm max. drill bit. I know from experience that when you drill thin material with a twist drill bit, where you can't back it up with a scrap of wood, you will probably end up with a jagged, irregularly shaped hole. A step bit solves that problem. Amazon lists pages of step bits but I could only find 1 with a 13mm step and it cost as much as this entire set. I have a step bit with a 1/2 inch (12.7mm) step. I will practice on a scrap of sheet metal to see if I can get it to work, maybe with a bit of jiggling. On the same order when I bought this kit, I bought some eye bols with short studs. I want to install them on the inside wall of my truck as tie rings to attach bungie cords to. I would have rated this kit 5 stars if it had had the correct drill bit.

Way better kit than I was expecting it’s perfect

My first try with RivNuts and it went ok! In particular, for my case, I had to redrill some holes under my truck on the oil pan shield. Application: you can't use the long arm rivnut tool for working in tight spaces, and these small manual tools are the right application for it. You need something to work upside down and in tight spots, this is the tool. Rivet Nuts: I think it might be best to use those "cross" riv nuts rather than the ones that came with this kit. These worked fine, but I would go another way for thicker sheets of metal. In any case, I'm hoping to find additional uses for the nuts that came with the kit - it might last my lifetime LOL. The Step Drill Bit: that came with the kit - it did the job very well. Pierced through old bolt threads with little issue. Case: actually holds all the pieces in decent fitness. Sometimes the case is too small as if some small child was able to pack everything inside of it, and my old hands can't figure it out. In this case, everything had just the right room to take everything out and put everything back in. It's not solid plastic, so I'm sure if I were to drop the case on the ground, everything would just explode. I will probably transfers these bits and tools to a more permanent stout case in the future. For now, it holds everything fine. It's not inexpensive, but it did the job, and there are enough pieces, that if I were to use it for everything it was intended for, it would be a big time and cost saver.
