Do I remove the current outlet plate and screw or only the screw?

It works either way. I removed the outlet plate so the unit is flush to the wall. The unit is larger than the wall plate so it covers the outlet opening. If you leave the plate on there is a slight gap between the wall and the unit.

Why does the green LED fade in and out rapidly?
