Absolutely love this kettle!
I just was refunded for a plain electric kettle (Aicok, half the price) because after a week's use it overflowed even when filled well below the max, and I could not remove the staining from the bottom no matter what I tried. As a daylong teadrinker, this kettle is heaven (no, I'm not being compensated to say this)! I boil the water (it's quick) and let it cool just slightly, lower the tea into the water, and let it steep (I like it dark). Result: the tea is full-bodied but lacks that "boiled tea" taste. The control you have over the keep-warm feature is great: you choose the temp, and the temp is displayed progressively as the water heats up. You then can turn the warm-up function off and on as you choose. It even gives a little beep to alert you if you want it to remain warm for a second or third hour. Love the versatility with mixing as I make my own blends (sometimes bags, sometimes loose--both work fine). The tea raise-and-lower feature works smoothly (no mishaps). The bottom stains slightly (unavoidable at my house I think) but the spots rub right off. And it looks great! I absolutely love it! UPDATE: my original kettle developed a glitch with its thermometer but Gourmia was very responsive and easy to work with. They got me a replacement kettle pronto and after three months it's working fine. Also I've realized the keep warm feature, super if more than one person is returning to the pot over a space of an hour or two, can be used just as a reheat if it's you're the only one using the kettle. Make your tea, let it shut off, go back an hour later and program the reheat, let it reach the temp you want, pour your tea, shut it off again. Works great and saves energy. (I don't think Ali is using the reheat feature properly--you definitely do not have to "start all over" to reheat--just turn the unit on and hit the program button. The temp says the same unless unit is unplugged.)

Tea kettle with good features and does exactly what I wanted.
I want to buy a glass tea kettle with programable temperature feature. I checked some reviews of some popular glass tea kettles on amazon. There are major three complains about all this kind of kettles. The first one is the interval of setting temperature, most are 10 degrees. This means you can not get 175 and 185 degree for green tea and oolong respectively. The second one is most of this kind of kettles don't have memory feature. You have to set the temperature every time by starting from the beginning. The third one is leaking which I guess is from the junction of glass and metal part of the kettle. Finally, I decided to give a try with Gourmia GDK290. The style and removable tea infuser attracted me.Pros:-The interval is 5 (F) degree for setting temperature.-Boils water quickly. It takes about about 6 minutes to boil 1.7L water.-It can remember the last temperature setting after you put the kettle back to the base. It also can recall the last setting even it was turned off (but not unplugged) so you don't have to reset the temperature every time.-It can keep the tea at your selected temperature for about 2 hrs with programming temperature feature.-Spout is metal instead of plastic.-Widely opened for easy cleaning with removed lid and tea infuser.-It beeps when the temperature reached your setting but not when you push the temp setting buttons.-Looks like good quality.Cons:-There is a kind of plastic smell from the machine. But tea smells normal. Hopefully the smell will gone after more using.-The kettle is bigger than I thought. You need at least 0.9L (~4 cups) to make half of the tea infuser soaking into the water.-The cord cannot wind up into the base. This review is just based on the couple of uses on day one. Overall I am satisfied with all features of this kettle. My wife also likes it. Attached pictures showed the removable tea infuser, wide opened kettle, temperature setting to 175 °F, kettle stop heating at 176°F (blue LED near the bottom of black handle is off).

Inferior quality "Made in China" product
I read through all the reviews and was very hesitant to purchase this tea maker due to the many complaints about rust forming on the metal bottom of the kettle. I ordered it anyway just to see if that was truly what is happening.I did not even get this far. According to the instructions you are suppose to boil water in the kettle and pour it out. Doing it twice to make sure any remaining chemicals from the production are washed out before beginning to brew tea with it.I did exactly that and notice a water puddle forming between the kettle and the heating base. I picked up the kettle and sure enough, water was literally running, not dripping out at the bottom of the kettle. I cleaned it, repeated the process and this time the water leak was even larger. Will be returning the product. The reviews are accurate and this product is of inferior quality. Lots of things are made in China, but honestly, top to this day I never had a product shipped to me that was broken right away. I do not believe that the water leak is a result of shipping damage but a lack of product quality. Maybe Gourmia just doesn't have the resources to have good a quality assurance process in place in China to make sure the product is manufactured to high quality standards. Disappointing. I am not going for a replacement either. Opening the tea mesh basket and also looking and feeling the metal for the kettle base, I can tell that the metals are of inferior quality. I have worked as a sheetmetal mechanic on airplanes for many years, so I have some expertise when it comes to that. The metals used in the manufacturing of this kettle are not a good metal alloy at all. Therefore, it is very plausible that rust would have formed quickly if I had gotten as far as actually using it for a few weeks. Very disappointing. I would have paid over $100 for a good quality tea maker, but unfortunately, many companies focus on cheap China production and profit maximization. That's the world we live in now.
