How many pounds can this hold?  What weight of the skier is this good for?  Can a 140 lb kid use this?

We had an adult on it to show the kids but was hard to use.  It worked good for our grandkids that were 6 and 8 years old.You have to start very slow and boat has to pull straight or goes off to side.  A 140 kids can probably use it.

Is there a trick to staying on it.  About 5seconds after starting it just pulls the kids off before they are ready.

It is best to put on the water skis first before getting onto theAqua Buddy. Make sure the bindings are properly adjustedfor the level of skier/rider.2. Young children can be set onto the Aqua Buddy by an adult.Bigger skiers can shift their body from the rear swim platformof the boat/watercraft (if so equipped) onto the seat of theAqua Buddy. Dragging too far will oftenresult in the skis veering off to one side, creatingfrustration and fatigue in the beginner skier. Is it hard to get on it.

We always put the kids on from the boat. We've actually taught a number of kids to ski using the Aqua buddy. It's nice because it helps them get used to the tug of the rope without having to pull themselves completely out of water. It's also less tiring so they don't get frustrated and give up. I'd buy it again. It did exactly what we wanted it to. As far as pulling sideways you just need to teach the kids how to pull themselves straight. It's not hard to do that, even the young ones can do it.

Would this help with wake surf training?

NO --- it doesn't work at all for ANY training. It's impossible to tow it - it swerves sideways as soon as you try
