Vinyl Styl Deep Groove Record Washer System - for 7/10/12 Inch (White)

Will this machine clean as well as a vacuum or ultrasonic system? I'm almost positive it won't. But if spending anywhere from $200 to $1200 (or more) isn't an issue for you, then off you go to a better world. For anyone looking for a great option under $100, this might be the machine for you. There are several basin-type cleaners on the market, most notably the bright yellow Spin-Clean which has the distinction of having been around the longest of the bunch. And for me, it was a dead-heat between the SC and this Vinyl Styl system for a long time (tried-and-true vs. new-and-improved). In the end, the VS Deep Groove cleaner won out, but not because it was cheaper (which is nice). First, the whole thing packs up into a great self-contained package. Second, the included drying rack saved me even more money by not having to purchase or build another device for holding wet records. Third, a clamp to protect the label is a great idea, and it's also the center axle of the spinning mechanics, which seemed to make more sense than the two rollers on the outer edge that the SC uses. And finally, I liked the idea of goat hair brushes better than the cloth pads the SC uses. I'll be the first to admit that it's purely speculative, but it just seems like the soft bristles of the brushes would do a better job at digging crud out of grooves than the pads would do. I've used similar stand-alone pad brushes like the ones in the SC in the past, and have never liked them. As to the issue of the fluid, many here (and on other forums) have complained that the Vinyl Styl cleaner left a film on their records which transferred to the stylus in the form of a gunky build up. It's possible that this is due to the fact that there's no rinse basin (unless you buy a second machine), or even a recommendation for one in the instructions (you're meant to just let them air dry, hence the drying rack). But rather than even chance it, I decided to throw out the included fluid and go with a home brew solution as many other reviewers have done. Google "London Jazz Collector Record Cleaning Fluid" for what is arguably the best recipe out there, or you can go with the classic distilled water/isopropyl alcohol/Dawn mix that has been used and praised far and wide. You could even use the Spin-Clean fluid in this machine if you wanted, but whatever you do, I would personally recommend a rinse with distilled water and a dry-off with a microfiber cloth before you put it in the drying rack to dry completely. So, while you could very well use this device right out of the box, I personally think you're better served by swapping the fluid, adding a rinse, and picking up a pack of microfiber cloths. I considered taking a star off my rating for this reason, but I feel that while those additions might be better choices, they're not absolutely necessary to get you started. And some people haven't had the problem with the gunk it seems, so who knows? The VS fluid might be just fine after all. But as with any method you use for cleaning vinyl (or storing it, or listening to it, or pretty much anything having to do with it), you're going to encounter heated debate on every message board and forum you read. As for the results, I'd say the VS does an excellent job of cleaning records. Granted, I have not inspected any of the grooves with an electron microscope, but in my own before-and-after play testing, the noise has been dramatically reduced, if not eliminated from most of the vinyl I've cleaned. No, it will not fix scratches, worn grooves, or warped records. It *might* fix skips or repeater loops *if* those problems are caused by dirt/debris on the disc (as it did for a couple of mine), though most often those issues are caused by physical damage to the surface of the record. Some records can also benefit from multiple cleanings, so if you're disappointed that the 50-some-odd year-old record you just washed still has some surface noise after a wash, try it again. If after two or three washings it sounds the same, then chances are the grooves are just worn. But while some of my older, more worn discs still have surface noise (and always will), after a cleaning or two it sounds like the volume on the crackle-and-pops has at least been turned down. All in all, a great investment for your vinyl for not a lot of money. If you're between this and the Spin-Clean, I think you'll be well served with either device, but with all the extra features the VS offers I think it's a slightly better value.

Goat hair brushes, very fine yet springy, provide better interaction with LP grooves than competitors' sponges. Integral drying rack eliminates toweling. There are several schools of thought on how to clean vinyl records. Two principal elements on which most agree is to use a detergent, a solvent such as IPA, or enzymes together with some sort of interaction with the vinyl surface. This can be a brush, sponge, fluid spray with suction, or even ultrasonic cavitation. Vinyl Styl does it with two fine, dense, replaceable brushes made of goat hair. Goat hair is finely textured yet has a lot of springiness, making these brushes ideal for getting deeply yet gently into the grooves. They do this much better than flat surface brushes or sponges used by the competition. They mount perpendicular to the grooves in a vertical wash basin. Fill the basin, insert the record, rotate in both directions for several revolutions and voilà, there's your interaction. Vinyl Styl's spindle is a stroke of genius. It keeps labels dry and locates your LP precisely. You tighten two sturdy plastic disks with a bolt through the spindle hole, sealing two butyl rings around the labels. This is a much more robust mechanism than the edge rollers used by the competition. And adding a rinse in a separate basin is now a breeze. The maximum label size the sealing disks cover is 4", the common standard. Another reviewer pointed out there are a few instances of larger center labels. The rings cover the all-important track narrative in all cases. The drying rack for seven LPs is another beautiful touch. It makes it simple to air-dry your prized vinyl without toweling that tends to deposit new particles and create static. You can stick with the stock process or come up with your own. For instance, I use DrFormulas digestive enzymes for the heavy lifting, then a detergent to wash off the debris, and a distilled water rinse as final step. Would you not rinse off your car or dishes after washing? Vinyl Styl's unique spindle design empowers you to add such extra steps because the labels stay dry no matter what you do. The two photos of 120x enlarged LP grooves show how this process works for me. I did try out Vinyl Styl's included cleaning solution for this review. It consists of diluted IPA and a detergent much like others of its kind. 'Worked ok for me. Opinions of other reviewers show a wide range. Some mention the solution leaves a film on their LPs. This will happen with any cleaning solution containing a detergent that's left to dry. Again, a rinse after cleaning is a good idea. And of course you are free to use your own favorite product or a home brew. What characterizes Vinyl Styl is its superior approach to the mechanics of cleaning, not the cleaner itself. All elements, even the drying rack and a cute square funnel, store as one elegant, compact unit. Industrial design at its best. Last but not least, when I approached the manufacturer with questions they wrote back promptly and courteously. Rare these days. This is a well designed record cleaning device that seems to work well regardless of the amount of dirt on your records. Due to being a purely man-powered mechanical and chemical cleaning solution, your cleanig will only go as far as the brushes and the cleaning solution you use, no ultrasound cavitation, no automatic drying, no vacuuming, but the substantial savings are well worth the price. -The goat brushes as opposed to the cleaning pads (the main difference with its competitor), work surprisingly well, they are soft enough that they don't scratch the record and thin enough that they seem to get into the grooves (each hair pretty much the with of a record stylus' tip). Also the density of the bristles seem to uniformly clean all the surface of the record evenly, which can be an issue with cleaning pads sometimes. The bristles are more flexible as well, allowing you to clean thin & thick records as they simply bend as needed. It is only feels tight when you change the direction of the rotation (which is expected) and when you remove the record vertically from the center (the brushes will come off this way), I recommend removing the record instead kind of horizontally towards one side with an extra last sweep of the brushes. I prefer the brushes because cleaning pads are not flexible, and they can accumulate dirt (rather than sweeping it) running the risk of smearing gunk over the record's surface even when wet. -The watertight label holder and spinning axis is simply useful and genius. It even has a place for you to spin the wheel with your fingertips without having to touch the record (no warping risk!). Curious that they don't show that on their own video. -The drying rack does work as intended and it gives you a kind of satisfying feeling when you see 15 records lined up drying, because it means that you're taking care of them. I recommend placing the records on the drying rack from the side, sliding them in (rather than vertically). The tips of the holders do have rubber, but no need risking a scratch or uneven water smudge or stain. Note that If you don't shake the records there will be water stains when they dry. -The funel, strainer and filters are a nice bonus, and a simple solution to having to deal with impurities in your cleaning solution. Definitely use them regardless of what liquid you use, store-bought or self-made. -Finally, I like it that the solution tank/basin can be covered with a lid if you decide to take a break or continue next day, without having to worry about impurities accumulating in the solution while gone. The ONLY real cons are: -True, unless you time it very well, pouring the solution from the basin back to the small funnel & bottle will not be easy when it's full, but it gets easier with practice. It would require a redesign to possibly solve it, but it's really a physics problem, it will happen with almost any type of container v/s bottle, unless you add a beak or spout into the design. -The cleaning solution comes with sone gunk from the factory, it seems that some of the material the bottle is made of, has dissolved into the liquid, or at least peeled off the inside of it. Not sure, but if this is the case, it may have a high amount of alcohol in it. but anyway, when you pour the liquid into the washing basin, it looks that it comes with some Sea-Monkeys (Algi-looking things) floating around... Therefore I recommend pouring the liquid through the filters EVERY TIME you use it, and rinse the inside of the bottle with hot water at least the 1st time. I've had no problems after that. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this device, and I hope that this helps someone who's deciding between the two similar pad v/s brush rotation record cleaning device.

OPERATION: o Pour 16 oz of cleaning fluid into the white tub. o Screw-down the record clamp onto the LP. This protects the label and provides an axle. o Place the LP into the tub between the submerged brushes. o Spin the record by hand about 5 revolutions. The submerged brushes clean the grooves. o Remove the record, remove the record clamp and place the clean record in the 15-record rack to dry. o REPEAT FOR EACH RECORD o Pour the 16 oz's of cleaning fluid through a filter in the funnel back into its container. HINTS: o Pre-clean especially dirty records in the sink, protecting the label by using the screw-down clamp. o Be very careful when adding or removing records from the drying rack. Remove them vertically, keeping the record perpendicular to the table/counter and tilting it a bit to the side that has more room. o Rotate the records 5 revolutions in one direction, then 5 revolutions in the opposite direction. You'll get cleaner records and more even wear on the brushes. o Replace your paper record sleeves with 100 Taguchi Round LP Inner Sleeves 0.028Mm Thick Anti-Static Material inner sleeves. They are less abrasive on your records and reduce static. o Put the records back in their sleeves as soon as they are completely dry. Otherwise, dust will accumulate on the records. o Occasionally, you find foreign material embedded in the album and it can't be removed by Vinyl Styl. Put a drop of cleaner fluid on the material and gently remove with your fingernail. Reclean the lp. o Even new records benefit audibly from cleaning. o When inserting the clamp pieces, insert the piece with the long shaft first. When removing clamp from record, remove the piece marked "Top" first. OPINION o The system works well, but will not remove all traces of contaminants on the LP. o It is faster and just as good as wet cleaning by hand. o The record clamp is a great idea and makes the handling of the records easier. o The drying rack is genius. It provides an input queue and a drying rack. o The cleaning fluid provided is good, but you can easily make your own. I use 75% distilled water, 25% isopropyl alcohol (91% at Walgreens), and a couple drops of dish-washing liquid. o I also like this concentrate: Spin Clean Wash Fluid 16 Ounces . It just takes a cap-full of this concentrate in the tub. o I get excellent results with this product. Track noise is almost inaudible after cleaning the records. Even used records sound good. However, the product does not remove pops from scratches, nor does it remove crackle from worn records. Love it!

I normally don't take the time to write reviews, but I though I would for this product. For the money, this record cleaning system is fantastic! It is easy to use and does a tremendous job of making old records sound (almost) new again. I recently tested it on a couple of fairly dirty and scratched records, and while it obviously didn't do anything for the nicks and scratches, it cleaned the grooves so well that almost all of the the static surface noise was eliminated. No more of that scratchy sound in the background of the record, just the occasional "pop" from the scratches. I'm so excited to get all my old records cleaned up again! But, if I'm being honest, I'd rather have given this product 4 1/2 stars because of two minor issues. One is the ability of being able to "recycle" the cleaning fluid by filtering it back into the bottle. First of all, this is nearly impossible to do without spilling a good amount of fluid because it doesn't pour out of the reservoir very well and spills down the front. There is a lot of fluid wasted this way. The other issue is the filtering system doesn't seem to work very well after the fluid has become very dirty. I have a number of old 78s that I bought at a yard sale and are extremely dirty. After cleaning just one disc, the cleaning solution became very grey with dirt and grime from the record. I filtered the solution back into the bottle and re-poured it into the cleaner reservoir and it came out the same color. The filter appeared as though it hadn't taken out any of the dirt particles at all. So with those 78s, it appears as though I'll have to give them a good "pre-scrub" with distilled water to get most of the gunk out of the grooves and then use the cleaner to finish the job. One other minor note is that I can't seem to find any replacement filters online. I think if Vinyl Styl was really smart, they'd include a pouch of them with the replacement cleaning solution that you'll eventually need to buy.

The drying rack was a complete surprise to me. It holds 15 records. I used the supplied fluid with no negative consequences. I also have a vacuum record cleaning machine. The Styl cleaned grit the vacuum machine missed. It also completely eliminates static. My humble opinion is the vinyl record cleaning federal inspectors would find my records equally as clean as someone owning a mega-thousand dollar Ultrasonic and Sonic matrix combination. But I could be wrong about that. The biggest difference is I don 't need a separate room to clean records. The cleaner bottle holds the exact amount of fluid that fills the reservoir. I will either refill with an aftermarket solution or mix my own.

Does s great job. . Simple, Easy and it Works! I cant see spending extra money for a sonic cleaner. I make my own cleaning solution though, using distilled water, Alcohol, and a drop of dishwasher rinse aid. Ask chatGPT for details

The good: This has everything you need to go through and clean a large collection quicker than by hand. It takes me about 6 minutes an album. This also has everything you need to get started and works great on filthy records. Unlistenable albums due to filth were listenable just with a wash and dry. There are 0 complaints about fit on records that are post 1990! The bad: The goat hair brushes should be rinsed before first use, I noticed abit of cloudy runoff when I rinsed mine. The cleaning solution contains iso alcohol which is fine for anything made of vinyl, though DO NOT USE VINYL STYL CLEANING SOLUTION WITH SHELLAC RECORDS THESE ARE THE 10" 78RPM RECORDS. Isopropyl will ruin these albums. The sealing caps that are to keep the label dry are about 1/8" TOO SMALL for most records made pre-1990 allowing the outer edge of the records to get wet. The adapter for 7" 45RPM records does not fit well at all and need to line up the caps by eye before screwing down. Overview: My process that worked best for me is to wash with 3 revolutions both ways, rinse with DI, pat dry with microfiber towels, and then in the drying rack takes about 10 minutes to finish drying. This system is great as I have dozens of albums that were in awful condition from not being placed in sleeves and being filthy to the point of being unlistenable even with a microfiber wipe off before playing. It cleaned them up to were a majority of the surface noise was gone with just using this cleaner. I did find that on most of the records would still have a small amount of dust/dirt come of when using a microfiber cleaner before use. Though this is just due to the microfibers being much smaller than the goat hair fibers, though for my purpose of mass cleaning albums with a visible layer of filth this is incredible.

Habiendo tratado algunos discos con mucha suciedad de variados orígenes pero principalmente debida a mal almacenamiento durante varios años, persisten algunos fallos en el sonido probablemente atribuibles a algo de suciedad restante (no puedo asegurar que no se deba a deterioro del material del soporte) Dicho lo anterior, el resultado me ha parecido ESPECTACULAR para el precio del sistema. Muy por encima de mis expectativas. El uso es extremadamente sencillo y para un entorno doméstico es, probablemente, la solución con mejor relación calidad / precio. Hay un pequeño detalle que no aparece en la documentación de usuario: la recuperación del líquido debe hacerse, además del depósito principal, del accesorio de secado (algún mililitro podemos salvar). En cualquier caso no he tenido tiempo de evaluar la duración del líquido limpiador... pero es bastante barato y fácilmente disponible con lo que no me parece un aspecto crítico. Lo mismo aplica para los filtros utilizados en la recuperación.

This is a great little system. I chose it over the spin clean for a couple reasons - the included drying rack, the way it covers the inner cardboard when washing, and frankly I had a great experience earlier in the week when ordering some record sleeves from the same seller. I do believe however you will be happy with whichever system you choose. It cleans your records pretty good and they seemed a bit less "static-y" after. Far easier than methods I have used in the past and I really wish I had bought one of these systems sooner. A couple notes/tips on this item. The cleaning fluid goes a long way but another bottle is 20 bucks so to make sure you get the most from it make sure you give your records a quick wipe before cleaning to keep as much extra dust out of the cleanser as possible. If you are cleaning a large collection I would recommend cleaning your "cleanest' ones first. I made the mistake of doing some recently acquired estate sale finds that were quite dirty first and they kinda made the cleanser murky - though it does have the property of a dishwasher rinse agent to "sheet" the water off, i should have done these last. Returning the fluid to the bottle for next time takes a little patience but is worth it. I put the bottom of the system on the funnel and tipped the spout allowing the fluid to run down the side and into the bottle - easier than trying to get the system tipped 90 degrees when full of fluid. Delivery from the seller was the next day (from USA) which was pretty fancy!!! Lastly, to the review that called this one more expensive than the spin-clean due to the duty charge. This is what I paid: $83.57 + 3.49 (shipping) + 25.88 duties = 112.94. Amazon did not charge tax on the item. The spin-clean currently is $109.99 + free shipping + 14.30 (13% HST) which comes to 124.29.

Sencillo y efectivo. A diferencia de otros aparatos similares, trae juntas tóricas para proteger la etiqueta y, al acabar, se recogen todos los accesorios en su interior de forma muy compacta. Viene con un producto de limpieza que da para una carga, pero enseguida hay que comprar más porque se va perdiendo y baja el nivel, y vale una pasta... Yo utilizo otro sistema: los limpio con agua y unas gotas de lavavajillas y después los aclaro con agua destilada. Quedan perfectos. Es más lento porque hay que pasarlos dos veces, pero el coste es casi nulo, no hay toxicidad y los productos los hay en cualquier supermercado.
