**Q: Is the 400/1000 stone hard and flat enough to sharpen chisels and plane blades?  The last stone I had would flake off like sand and developed a groove**
A: Yes I hone straight razors, all stones will develop imperfections, you also need to buy a flattening stone or a 12x12 piece of marble and a square of 400 grit wet sandpaper then flatten it that way
