I am using Renaissance Metal Decorroder for antique metal objects for years now. The main quality is that it does not attack healthy metal but only the rust, allowing a very good control throughout the cleaning process. And if it happens for you to forget a valuable piece in the substance for a couple of days, nothing very bad will happen, as the metal will only get a slightly darker patina.
