It's cheap and it works
The media could not be loaded. It's easy to use and it works great. It is loud though (like an alarm clock). For whatever reason the battery wasn't going in (as if the battery compartment were too small) but I gave it another go and it fits like a glove.

It passed its test with flying colors...
I cut the sheath off a couple Ethernet cables I was about to throw away to make sure this thing can detect errors correctly. Whenever I touched 2 bare wires together, it beeped differently, lit up the "short" indicator, and lit up which 2 wires were shorted. It can even detect 2 shorts at the same time by lighting up 4 wire numbers (the lights across the top). When I snipped individual wires within the Ethernet cable, it still beeped normally and lit up "connected." but not all of the 8 lights across the top lit up, which showed which ones were not passing the signal through. It only lights up "not connected" when all of the wires are snipped, or the end is not plugged in. I also tested about 10 Ethernet cables (some CAT5, CAT5e, and CAT6) that I had not tampered with, and it showed that all of them are fine. It detected everything perfectly, so I trust it does what it is supposed to, even though it wasn't an extensive test.Other than that, I find it easy to use and understand, and I also like how there is a detachable part. That way you don't need both ends of a cable in the same spot to test them, which is great if you already have the cable where you want it.If you want to test your cables, I highly recommend this unit.

Nice little meter
Nice little meter. I checked only the RJ 45 (Ethernet) cable, but it worked great and I found my problem immediately. The rub is: even thought it is advertised as checking USB cables (and I'm sure it does) it checks only the old Type A to Type B connectors. I wanted it for Type B mini. Alas, no luck. The connectors on the device are for the Type B (look at the picture closely) connector, and I can't find an adapter anywhere (I'm still looking though). There are many adapters on the market but no Type B mini Female to Type B (original) Male. You'd think that would be a popular adapter, but apparently not.Except for that one little (NOT) thing, this meter is just what the doctor ordered. If I find an adapter, I'll post it here.

SO much better than the other cheap tester...
Spend the extra few bucks on this version over the other common one floating around under ten everywhere. This one is very fast and shows everything all at once. This is just a better tester for a few bucks more, plus it can test a few more odd cables if you need it.Unless you need to professionally test cables all day, get this. Otherwise grab one of the pricey digital screen ones that can show tons of data. This tells you at a glace if its shielded, connected, and which strands are damaged. Doesn't constantly cycle through them like the other testers.

A lot of functionality for the price, and easy to use too
Also very pleased, especially at this price. My only quibble [I would rate it 4.5 stars] is that the BNC plug for the other end of the cable doesn't store inside the unit. Most of the appeal was that everything snaps together nicely into one unit when not in use, but the one loose connector kind of ruins that. They do give you a little soft case for the unit, so at least you can slip it in there.Functionally, very pleased. It has the measurement I was most interested in, which was detecting whether a modular phone cable is wired as a crossover or not, since that's a very common flaw in that kind of cable. It detects and displays that clearly and quickly, and even makes a different kind of beep so you can tell the result without looking at the display. Really handy since I was sorting through about 20 cables. It also shows you whether you have a 2, 4, or 6 conductor cable. And, I'm sure the coax impedance checking will come in handy for future CATV work - really a surprising amount of functionality in this little unit for the price.

Great value and a great addition to your toolbox
This tester is worth twice the priceI received it yesterday and tested all functions and it works great. I bought it to replace a very expensive tester that I used for years but mislaid it on a job site. Ok it does not tell me the length of the cat 5 cable or put a tone on it but I did not use those functions anyway. My primary use is to test cat 5 cables prior to installing cameras on them. This does that and more.It comes in a nice little case which houses the BNC remote. The battery is not included but for this price who cares. The photograph of the unit is deceptive in that it shows the tester as one unit but the remote slides off the side so I can install the remote part on the end of an installed cat 5 cable 100 feet away. For the price even if my expensive tester ever turns up I will still use this and not worry about leaving it unattended on a job site

Not the best quality
It does the work, but expected a little more professional finish on the case and the bag. Actually the leds indicating that the netwrok cable is OK are Red, so at the beggining is co confusing thinking that the cable may be bad but it is not.
