Ammo & Ballistics 3
I do alot of shooting for a number of reasons and handload all of my ammo. I have a wide variety of firearms used from 10m to out to 2.5km on ranges. The book is very good as a general reference and helps me check my data to the contents of the book, eventhough I use metric for my data and they use american. There are two major weaknesses (I do buy the upgrades): 1) they could show more typically non american cartridges and 2) for the less experienced as well as showing the generally accepted overall legth of the case; showing the generally accepted overall length of the bullet would be useful. All in all I'm happy with the book if used solely as a reference and the price/quality is okay considering the 2 negatives which could be very easily rectified. They have not been in Ammo and Ballistics 4.

Helpful, but a bit bland
This is a useful book for novices wanting information on the performance of American factory ammunition. There is little information on wildcat cartridges, nor is there more than a few sentences on the history and application of each cartridge. I feel that the publishers could have been more generous with photographs and text, instead of offering seemingly endless pages about some very archaic and obscure calibres.

A great reference
If you're into shooting, I mean accurate shooting, this is a great reference. It lists about every commercial ammo product out there. It gives a reletive recoil index (I could not find an explainantion of what the test conditions of the index are). It gives all sorts of velocity and bullet drop tables for each product. It lists muzzle velocity, and energy, and lists the velocity and energy at incremental distances up to 600 or 800 yards. It is easy to construct ballistic tables for any catridge using this reference. So if you like to try long shots, or just do some comparison of different cartridges you are interested in, this reference is invaluable. The data does contain information on some ammo that is no longer made. I can see replacing it every three or four years with the latest edition.

Vital reference work
This is a must have reference for shooters who want to be at the cutting edge in knowledge of the ballistic performance of their various firearms. It is a comprehensive collection of data on all available factory ammo loads. It is well laid out, easy to access information for the shooter who wants to know accurate details about the ammunition in use. Don't be without it if you are getting ready to purchase a new caliber or want to know just how to sight in any firearm in your current collection.
