Can this be used outside, or only inside?

Great product, works well with HomeKit.

Great product. I hooked this up via HomeKit, and it works perfectly. I have many devices in my smart home. I have this one outside. I like that it’s a temp sensor, lux sesnor, and motion sensor. It works perfectly. I turned off the led light notification for stealth operation. I have it push a notification sent to my iOS devices letting me know there’s Motion, and they trigger my outdoor lights for 10 minutes at night, then powers off. Please be careful how you read others reviews, it sounds like many didn’t read the instructions, or don’t understand the power of HomeKit. I have 19 smart bulbs, and 19 connected devices/switches via HomeKit. I’ve dealt with bad products and good. I rate this a good product.

Great Product with updated app.

UPDATE: Fibaro Has made the advertised features work correctly. Now works well and settings are on par with other motion sensors. Changing to 4 stars. Priced higher than others in the same space. The product has all the potential. But it does nothing that the commercials or owners manual suggest. It detects motion fine. Reports temperature. But has no controls to set time, size, color. I've contacted their support and they said those features were "coming soon" and half blamed Apple. The Eve motion sensor has those features working. It's not Apple. It's the App. Rushed to market before the proper app support was ready. If you are willing to wait for already advertised features buy. If not get the Elgato Eve Motion Sensor. I bought both to test. Will likely return if the app doesn't update soon.Update- was told by Fibaro the parameter setting features would be added at end of April. It is now end of May. No updates have been provided. Still no Motion settings. Still no time to detect Motion settings. It detects motion. Nothing smart about it. Buy Elgato Eve. I would return if I could.

This feels like an incomplete product

This feels like an incomplete device. One of the first issues you will encounter is that Fibaro does not print the Homekit code on the motion sensor itself. Unlike Elgato and iDevices, Fibaro only prints the code on the back of the manual. So if you misplace the manual, you will be up a creek without a paddle. Next, you can't even set the sensitivity of the device. There is no Low, Mid, High to tell it how much movement it should consider before detecting motion. Moreover, there is no way to set the duration time for which it no longer considers something moving. Lastly, if you place the motion sensor at a high place, the temperature sensor will register a temperature that is higher than the room temperature. There is no way to provide an offset to tell the device you want it to report room temperature.Currently, the Fibaro app does not provide any real value. I had to use the Elgato app, or the Apple Home app, to test out any rules like having lights turn on/off when movement is detected or not. The Fibaro motion sensor also seems to go to sleep, to conserve the battery, every so often. When you open their app, the Elgato app, iDevices app, or the Apple Home app, to connect to this device, sometime you'll get a connection failure. Sometimes, the failure will correct itself and the device will wake up. But sometimes, you need to go into the IOS setting and turn off Bluetooth and turn it back on again to give the device a kick to wake up. When it gets into this deep sleep, no motion is detected. There is also no way to turn off the changing of the color the eye makes when it detects motion, increased heat etc... The hardware seems solid, but the software to control it seems missing. Therefore, it feels like an incomplete product. The Elgato motion sensor: Elgato Eve Motion, Wireless Motion Sensor with Apple HomeKit technology, Bluetooth low energy is a more stable product at this point in time.Update 1-8-2017 - Using the Elgato Eve rules engine to turn on and off lights when it detects motion, the Fibaro motion detector will send a signal to turn light on when it detects motion, but it will not send a CLEAR signal when it detects motion has stopped. So, the lights stay on indefinitely. Further, the Fibaro has a light sensor in the device, when motion is detected, the lux value does not always get updated. The light lux stays at the previous value. Therefore, it's not a useful value to use in automation at the moment.Update 5-4-2017 - Still no firmware update to fix the listed problems.Update 6-25-2017 - On IOS 10.3.2, The CLEAR signal is now being sent about 30 seconds after no motion is detected. However the time interval that determines no motion still cannot be changed.Update 9-19-2017 - Fibaro finally released an update that allows the user to change the timeout and the sensitivity of the motion sensor. You can also change the tamper settings as well as the visual indicator of the eye. Also, on IOS 11, it works a lot faster than it did on IOS 11. The motion sensor is much faster than it previously was. If you want to use the Fibaro app to create Scenes and Triggers, it forces you to turn on Location Services though, which does not make sense. So, it's best to use the Elgato Eve app to create Scenes and Triggers. The light sensor still does not report the correct value sometime though. Therefore, creating triggers based on the light sensor just doesn't work in a consistent manorUpdate 10-03-2017 - .Philips just enabled their motion sensor: Philips Hue Smart Motion Sensor (Installation-Free, Exclusive for Philips Hue Lights) to be Homekit capable. In addition to the motion sensor, it has a light sensor and a temperature sensor. All for half the price of this Fibaro product. Therefore, if you are thinking about getting a Philips Hue system, then their motion sensor might be the better product. Right now, the only issue with the Philips Hue motion sensor is that they don't give you access to the motion sensor time out, which they do when it's hooked up to their Hue bridge. I assume that feature will come with a firmware upgrade in the near future.

I purchased this product in July of 2017 and it has worked fine for what I needed it for (motion detection for lights). Fast forward to December of 2017 and I have moved across the country and I remounted it and went to set it up again. What I didn’t know is that the HomeKit code isn’t mounted on the device (including inside) and you can’t set it back up without it. I checked on the Faq’s of their site and it does mention to make sure to save the packaging as the code is printed no where else. Part of this is of course my fault but this is the only HomeKit device (I have about 20 devices) I have that doesn’t print the code either on the device or inside near the battery. Buyer beware, make sure you save your HomeKit code of this turns into a worthless blinky light.
