Which is a surprise to me, and I've been meaning to write the author and thank him for broadening my literary horizons. Up to now, I've gravitated to stories where the good guys are good, the bad guys are bad, no in-between. I used to tell people I hated books and movies where the protagonists are con-artists, thieves, mafia, etc. Now here comes a series of books where demons and tricksters have their own brand of nobility. The main characters are likable and the plot is engaging and suspenseful. This most recent one is still a bit dark for me (but that's just me) and that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. But I remain intrigued and am looking forward to the next in the series. And also hoping for more Harmony Black. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Faust # 6 book, The Castle Doctrine *by P***I on January 22, 2017* Daniel Faust, a man of questionable character lives a life of persistent dilemmas which keep him on a runaway train riding on twisted broken tracks. His eagerness to solve the mysteries which threaten his life and those he loves drives him to sanguinary extremes, and his posse armed with dark occult authority are his allies. There is a twist in the moral fiber of Faust, however, and as you follow his adventures you learn to love this convoluted, magical con man, who at the very worst of times and within an inch of the end of his life conjures up a way out usually scathed but alive. His code is to kill only those who deserve to die, but admits to having wandered from this path for the sake of survival. But he is a man of principles always with a cause, not a loose cannon, unbridled. He is thoughtful and driven. Craig Schaefer is an amazing author who synthesizes Faust's character in such a way that that this inveterate criminal is always a hero saving friends, family or the world with his shady, occult, underworld and netherworld posse.
