Laguiole Waiter's Corkscrew With Rosewood Handle

I’ve gone through many many cork screws in my life. They all seem to start out well, but have varying lifespans. Usually if they can make it through a year, they stand out, but they rarely last that long. Upon visiting several wineries in Sonoma and Napa, I noticed that every one of them used this brand. They certainly stand out, since they have wooden handles and are very sleek looking. I made a point to take a photo so I could order one for myself. Once mine arrived, I was blown away at the quality and craftsmanship. After using it for a while, I decided that I was going to gift these to my friends, so I ordered a few more for an upcoming wine party. Everybody loves their and so far they stand up to regular use without showing signs of falling apart.

Purchased this corkscrew after all the others I had purchased failed after a short period of time. I tried many of the new models, and they were all very easy to use but they all FAILED after a short while. It is not like I was using them in a restaurant: I open maybe four bottles a week. Anyway, so far this is working well, although not as easy as some, it seems to be well made. If it fails I will be sure to change this review, but so far so good.

Good quality as expected from this brand. I just wish this model had a longer metal latch thingy perhaps with 2 sections to make it easy to open a bottle. I find myself pulling on the cork at the end.

Waiters use this type of corkscrew for a reason - it gets the job done efficiently and is compact. This corkscrew exceeded by expectations considering its relatively low cost. I appreciate the heavy-duty screw - compared to my other corkscrews this one seems more robust. The level action also removes the entire cork in one fluid motion. It's also attractive with the rosewood handle and slim design.

The first of two that I received was obviously defective from the manufacturer in two respects. The knock off Laguiole Bee was broken off and the piece was not in the box. Also, the rosewood handle was cracked. I knew it was not the genuine article, but it should have been undamaged. It was returned and a replacement sent out quickly which was not perfect either, but it was whole and therefore acceptable. It works as it should and is not unattractive.
