Another Elizabeth Barton winner!
I fell in love with Elizabeth Barton's work after buying her first book 'Inspired to Design.' When her second book 'Working in a Series' was published, it became my next must-have purchase. If you are a Barton fan, this is a must-have book for you, too.

Great Resource for all Serious Art Quilters
I found this book full of good information about working in a series and how critical that is to developing a body of work.Step by step exercises for evaluating all of your previous work, strengths and weaknesses and gets you focused.Having studied with Nancy Crow for many years, she always stresses building a body of work and working in a series. This book captures some of Nancy's wisdom and provides a guide for people just starting their contemporary Art Quilt journey. Book includes working from photos and creating them in your own voice, creative sketching, some exercises on improving design and structure of your work. I have notes on almost every page of things to remember and have highlighter on many sections I want to easily be able to locate. A great resource book for getting started, getting unstuck or reminders of concepts you learned earlier. One of my favorite books and I am someone who has had Art quilts in a touring exhibit in Europe for three years. Just shows that we can all keep learning. Enjoy and use it.

Very worthwhile book
If you've ever thought of working in a series or wondered why people do work in a series this book is a must read. I was looking for a little guidance as to the how and why of working in a series. After reading this book I now see a real value to working in a series as it gives you the opportunity to play with "what if's" while not trying to load too many ideas into a single quilt. It will help you home in on your own personal style of quilt making while expanding your level of creativity.

A Must Have for Serious Art Quilters
This is Elizabeth's second book and once again she has gone beyond most when it comes to sharing her knowledge and instructions.I have taken many classes with her both in person and online and this book just reinforces everything she teaches. She is by far the best teacher I have studied with. Her attention to detail when it comes to instruction is second to none due to her wonderful writing skills. Working in a series will help you to start at the basics when it comes to design, explore many possibilities and ultimately execute a great body of work! This is not just a basic design book but one with great detail and ideas. For sure a "must have"!

THOUGHT PROVOKING!
The exercises EB suggests are great; definitely make you think harder and dig deeper. The one drawback for ME is, I wasn't personally drawn to her style of art quilts and so was not inspired by the fiber art shown. Once I got past THAT, however, and read the fine print, I really appreciate the information/suggestions/exercises. I am using it in my own work, so that is what I asked for & paid for even if I was not in love with her sample art.

Like it
I have been quilting for awhile, saw this book advertised in a quilting magazine and ordered it. I did not read the author's first book but have read through most of this one and have begun some of the exercises. I can see that this book will stimulate my creative juices and lead to a long relationship with my quilts-to-be-designed. Using this book, I can anticipate that there are endless possibilities to be explored. I am pleased I purchased this book.

E. Barton's book Working in a Series is a great help
First book I have ever reviewed online. I'm not a quilt maker, but thought this might help my art practice and it did. A very useful book for someone who wants to develop her/his thinking about art practice. Barton is a very good teacher: this book is organized with terrific information and also focused activities to help the reader put into practice the ideas. As always, you get out what you put in, but if you do the activities, you'll see and feel new paths opening for your artwork. Highly recommended.
