## Questions & Answers

**Q: What items are included in this system, and how many?**
A: The 6500CX Reference Component Speaker set comes with (2) 6 1/2" Woofers, (2) 3/4" Uni-Pivot Tweeters, (2) Component Crossovers, (2) Universal Mounting Brackets, all the hardware needed to install the system, some single-sided sticky foam for the backs of the speakers and the tweeters, (2) Pivoting Tweeter Mounts, (2) Customizable Tweeter Flush Mounts, (2) Fixed Tweeter Mounts, and (2) "Infinity" Badges if you use the factory grills for the woofers. It does not come with any wiring harnesses, speaker wire, or wire splices, so make sure you have some if you plan on installing these.

**Q: Would it be okay to plug these in a 200w @ 2 ohm channel?**
A: I think that is too much power for them... that is 150W @ 3ohm and they are rates for 90W @ 3 ohm RMS... I'm running them at 90W @ 2 ohm per channel, using a JL 360/4 and they sound nice in the mid's and hi's. The lows are noticeably lacking. Maybe more power would help. But I just threw a RF 10" powered sub in there and it ROCKS now! Have the entire range covered now... :) These are really nice components, the sound is very detailed, no distortion, and the +/- db button is niceEDIT** Actually it states 5-90 Watt RMS per channel @ 3 Ohms. 270 Watt Peak Power. How do I calculate Amplifier Output? The calculation for figuring out how much is fairly straightforward, and pretty much what I would expect it to be. Since ohms measure resistance, the more ohms, the less output from the amplifier. Conversely, the less ohms, the more output from the amplifier.Since the amp is rated at a specific amount of ohms (i.e. 100 watts @ 4 ohms), a different amount of ohms will produce a different output. Two 8 ohms speakers wire in series (16 ohms total) would cause the amp to produce 25 watts to each speaker.Amplifier Output = Amplifier Watts x (Amplifier Rated at Ohms / Speaker Chain Ohms)Amplifier Output = 100 watts x (4 ohms / 16 ohms)Amplifier Output = 100 watts x 1/4Amplifier Output = 25 wattsAn amplifier designed to put out 100 watts into 8 ohms will put out 200 watts into 4 ohms. Two 8 ohms speakers wired in parallel (4 ohms total) would cause the amplifier to produce 200 watts.200 watts = 100 watts x (8 ohms / 4 ohms)

**Q: These are 3 ohm speakers. I have a Kenwood 4 ohm amp. Would there be a problem with this setup?**
A: Not at all. I am running my system also through Kenwood amps at 4ohms. The sound is clean and responsive.

**Q: Since these are a 3ohm speaker...will there be a problem running this with my stock vw head unit? 08' GTI**
A: The reference series speakers should pair well with your stock head unit. What I like about these speakers is they are the best infinity speaker without needing an additional amp. I have installed the reference series on a few vehicles with stock head units and they always sound great.

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice Clean Sound!!
*by J***G on February 6, 2014*

I ordered these to replace the factory speakers for the front of my 2005 Chevy Colorado, and I couldn't be happier. The 6500CX Reference Component Speaker set comes with (2) 6 1/2" Woofers, (2) 3/4" Uni-Pivot Tweeters, (2) Component Crossovers, (2) Universal Mounting Brackets, all the hardware needed to install the system, some single-sided sticky foam for the backs of the speakers and the tweeters, (2) Pivoting Tweeter Mounts, (2) Customizable Tweeter Flush Mounts, (2) Fixed Tweeter Mounts, and (2) "Infinity" Badges if you use the factory grills for the woofers. It does not come with any wiring harnesses, speaker wire, or wire splices, so make sure you have some if you plan on installing these. It took a while to figure out how to mount the crossovers in the door, so that when I put the door panel back on it wouldn't crush them, but mounting them just under the armrest bracket worked out perfectly. I ran them straight from my Pioneer DEH-3200UB Head Unit, utilizing the existing wiring for the factory woofers. I just disconnected the factory tweeters, and ran the crossovers from the woofer wires and split them to the speakers. You don't want to run the tweeters from the factory wires, as I was told by the guys at Crutchfield that the factory wiring uses as transistor for the tweeters and it will not work with the aftermarket ones, so you have to use the included crossover and run it from the full range woofer wiring. To mount the tweeters I had to cut out the factory grills from the door panels and used the pivot mounts. I was able to use the factory grills for the woofers though. The crossovers have a switch on them labeled "3dB", that is for adjusting the output of the tweeters. Pushing it in increases the tweeter range up 3dB for a higher sound output. The sound from these speakers is incredible, even my wife commented that the vocals in songs sounded much clearer than the factory speakers, and the lows are much deeper. The lows are so much deeper that now, I have to figure out where this rattling is coming from in my dash, and the speakers are mounted in the doors. I believe it is from the plastic turn lock access panel on the side but I am not sure yet. I choose Infinity because I have used them in the past for my last truck and they sounded great and are still going strong even after 10 years. This was a great buy and for the price you can't beat it, on Infinity's website this component set sells for $250. I am very pleased and I would recommend these to anyone that wants to upgrade their factory speakers, and get nice clear sound without breaking the bank.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very good quality with almost no distortion
*by B***V on November 9, 2014*

I used these components to replace the Bose speakers in my new Mazda 3. I used these to replace the Bose door woofers and located the tweeters where the Bose mid/high speakers in the dash were located. I had to fabricate custom mounts for the tweeters so they could be hidden and did that by taking the factory Bose speakers and cutting off the magnets and then buying a 1.25" PVC pipe coupler with a plug and cutting them down to size and then gluing them to the speaker frame.I've had both good and adequate Infinity speakers in the past and didn't want to go for the cheaper component models, but didn't want to pay for the Kappa's either. It was a good choice as the range is decent, lows are clear and not boomy (like the Bose system), and highs are adequate and clear, but slightly metallic. I can push them up to reasonable levels without noticeable distortion. That said, I replaced my rear door speakers with Polk 651s slim speakers because of fit issues and the larger frequency range of those units. They are also less expensive. The Infinity speakers sound better, but the back is primarily fill-in and I didn't need this level of quality there.I do find a very slight clarity issue near the crossover point and there is a tonal change between the woofer and tweeter in the higher midrange which you can hear if you are an audiophile. If that is an issue, you're going to have to go to high end Focal or Dynaudio type components which are 4 times more expensive. I can't justify that type of spending for only a subtle change. While I wish the tweeters were a little better quality, these are excellent speakers and I'd recommend them wholeheartedly.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very respectable.
*by D***. on February 2, 2019*

These were bought as an affordable, quick fix replacement for a set of 25 year old Kef Kar speakers that finally had a tweeter fail. Not quite in the same league as those Kef's but a pretty nice component set, especially for the price that Amazon sells these older models. I'd give them a solid 3.5 stars for sound and they are definitely a very good value for the price.I had the mids high passed at 80Hz and this set played loud and clean with a good, 100 watt per channel amplifier. I can't comment on how well the mids handle the frequencies below 80Hz. The tweeters aren't exceptionally detailed or airy but they are clear, fairly smooth and non-fatiguing. Really, my only small con is with a subtle, nasal sounding "resonance" from the tweeter that sometimes presents itself, seemingly most often with some vocal harmonics. A good description might be that they can be just a little rough around the edges within a very narrow frequency range. Again, it's fairly subtle and not really noticed with casual listening while driving. More of a nit pick than much else.I have since replaced the Infinity's with a different component set that's a little bit higher up the food chain. But still, these are a good buy and a very respectable set. If I wasn't previously spoiled by the Kef's, these Infinity's would still be in the truck. You can spend more and get less, which is probably why Infinity has remained so popular over the years.
