Yes the light stays on all the time that there power connected to it.

What are the dimensions of this? I need the bottom portion to fit < 7/8 inches. Also, this product description says it is 5.5 x 3.5 in. Is it really?

It is about 1.25" diameter. I used a 1.125" hole saw to make the hole in my dash. It is probably just shy of 2" long. I'm not sure where they came up with those dimensions, but it is nowhere near that large.

Can I run this to a car battery without it burning up?

It has an inline fuse. Made sure you have access to the fuse.

Can the blue LED be disconnected?

I dont believe so its wired internally so doing that means disassembling the case
