Brilliant Game.
This was one of the 1st games I bought for my Series X and I wasn't disappointed! I've played through the main campaign twice and it's a masterpiece. I've played all the Halo games and this is by far the best and most polished. The addition of the grappling hook was a welcome mechanic.

A better Halo, albeit one missing the Halo soul
Gameplay wise it's the best Halo yet. It's very clear straight away actually. Weapons just feel so much punchier. Better. More satisfying. And when you've got a game that is very much about shooting things, that's going to count for quite a lot. So in this sense it's the best Halo to date by a decent enough margin. The biggest issue I have with it though is this. What's happened to the soul of Halo? It's been missing since Reach. And I guess that's your answer right there. Enough said. Every mainline Halo game since has felt like a Halo mod over some other shooter. That's still cool. It's still fun. It's still awesome. It's still one of the best shooter experiences in ganimg. And it's still an Xbox selling experience in my opinion. But it's absolutely lost that special magic it once had, and it looks to me that Halo could do with some new hands around it going forward.I'd also say that the open world idea was great on paper but I'm not so much of a fan of the end result in this way with this one. It really adds to the above issue. At the same time, I'd like to see Halo continue with it but do it better next time. The game also isn't on the disc. It seems to be, essentially, just a way of triggering the download for the game. But that's where gaming is going. Fast. I would not be surprised if the next generation Xbox/Playstation towards the end of the decade do away with discs all together. Thought I may as well mention this anyway though given that I'm aware that, for some, that's one of the points of having a physical copy. Game preservation and all that. Not going to happen here with this one. Once there's no download to trigger oneday this will be nothing more than something to look at or use in a non gaming way (such as something to rest for your cup on).

So good (according to my son).
This was bought as a birthday gift for my son. I know it must be good because he plays it as much as he can when he's not back in the real world of school, activities and family time. He was adamant he wanted the disc version rather than a download as it apparently lets you do more with other players. I'll take his word for it, but what I do know is that it keeps him quiet for some time and that's a bonus for me as it lessens the nagging!

Great campaign
Campaign is long and good fun, a mix between open world and indoors missions. The outdoors offers freedom to explore and how you take on missions, the indoors are more traditional halo missions however don’t stick out in my mind. The best moments are when you rescue a pack of marines, reaching the top of a mountain switching up weapons to drive the enemy back - there’s a few moments like this which remind you why you loved halo in the first place. Not played much multiplayer, however seemed to work well and was free to play.Recommended.

And now another generation enjoys Halo and the story of Master Chief
I have been a PC gamer to a fault since 1999. I never would purchase a console. Then I had grandkids and a grandson who has grown up playing Nintendo Switch, and at the earliest possible time, I introduced him to Halo. I have been an avid Halo gamer since CE. I never "finished the fight" until the Master Chief Collection was released on Steam for PC, and it took me until 2020 to realize I could download and play the franchise games I had missed since Halo 3 was an Xbox-only title. I installed drivers to use a PS3 controller work for him, and he started playing Halo Infinite on my PC, and he is hooked. So, in anticipation of the summer coming up - I bought an Xbox X 1TB and Halo Infinite for him to game on as well as a co-op with me. Thankfully, now PC can play with Xbox users, so I cannot wait to put this to the test, and he and I team up in multi-player and campaign runs. This should be fun. After all - it's Halo! No matter how many want to bad mouth this or that, I still love the game for what it is, and I love it now seeing the smiles that cannot be removed from my grandson's face when he plays. That is worth all the money, effort, and time taken to get to this point.
