Red Sails to Capri by Ann Weil is a Newbery Award winning novella. Written for young adults, it surely will delight every age reader and will give adults something lovely to share with the young people in your life. The story takes us to the beautiful Isle of Capri before it became a world-class tourist destination. It was a fisherman’s paradise, its caves and caverns both mysterious and threatening. The young protagonist, Michele, embodies the qualities and characteristics of young teenagers everywhere. He refuses to succumb to superstition and instead embraces the mystery of his beloved island with tingling fear and love of the thrill of adventuring into the unknown. The minute Michele beheld the red sails in the harbor he was enchanted. Without hesitation he befriended the somewhat lost sailors and found that the three of them were all seeking something different. One was searching for adventure, one for beauty, and one for mystery. Little did Michele know that by joining this trio of wanderers he would enjoy a great adventure, find astounding beauty and solve an abiding mystery of Capri. Enjoy this lovely little read of 150 well-crafted pages. Red Sails to Capri is somewhat old-fashioned in its gentleness and exotic atmosphere. This story is a lovely way to be introduced to Capri and its now well-known “mystery” to young readers.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book. It was a part of my sons homeschool program and the library didn’t have it. It ended up catching both my interest and my 9 year old sons. I’m glad we have this as part of our collection. Storyline was easy to follow and it was fun to pull up the real blue grotto and learn more about this hidden gem.

I enjoyed the story. Be sure to look up the true story It is very interesting.

A good book. I have found that "kid" books are the best. Nice for reading with the family, or on your own. It was fun to learn the history of this.

This was a great story. I wasn’t too sure at first, just looking at the cover and hearing the description, but this delighted my children (ages 13, 9, and 7) and me from beginning to end.

One of our families most beloved books. Mystery. Beauty. Rich and beautiful descriptions of Capri and the Grotto. Wonderful and engaging story. Everyone will love this book.

My kids LOVED this book! It's a great read if you're studying Italy. My girls are 7 and 9 years old, and they would beg me for "just one more chapter!"

The book has a wonderful story !!! I I did not see the book that I purchased from you, as I sent it off as a gift. It's a Caldacott Award Book, I recommend it for reading to first, second, and third graders, fourth and fifth is good too, it's actually for any age. I recently read it, it's quite amusing.
