FOLD LEGS OUT, TURN UPSIDE DOWN, SLIDE LOCKS FROM UNDERNEATH , LEGS WILL BE SECURE!!
My big boy cat with bad hips , uses these with ease from the first use, as do all of our other cats.FIRST EVEN IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW HOW TO ASSEMBLE IT, LOOK AND READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.THE LEGS WILL LOCK IN SECURELY, IT SHOWS SLIDE LOCKS ON THE BACK OF THE TOP STEP. IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE WITH THE SLIDE LOCKS ON THE OUTSIDE, ( I did and think some other people have too),JUST TRY MY EASY SOLUTION >>>I straightened the legs, and I did have trouble using the slides that are on the outside on the back of the top step, to lock the legs. SIMPLE SOLUTION: TURN THE STEPS UPSIDE DOWN , MAKE SURE THE LEGS ARE STRAIGHTEND ALL THE WAY , THEN USE YOUR HAND TO SLIDE THE LOCKS INTO PLACE FROM UNDERNEATH. JUST MAKE SURE THE LITTLE CHANNELS ON THE LOCK ARE SLIDING OVER THE LITTLE PIECES ON THE STEPS, AND THEY WILL GO RIGHT INTO PLACE, VERY EASILY AND WILL LOCK SECURELY.I would never take a chance on my pet family being injured , and I feel these steps are very safeBe sure to place them against, your chair , sofa, bed etc.as the instructions show, this gives extra stability.I have the steps on carpeted floor. If you have hardwood floors you may want to put a little area mat with rubber backing underneath the steps if them seem to slide. I have different kind of pets steps in another room , and to avoid slippage that is what I did, and no problem with sliding ever.My pets have used pet steps for a long time, if your pet has never used steps, just take some time and work with to show them that going up and down is not a scary thing and no time the will get accustomed to the steps.Make sure you buy steps the are for the proper size and weight of your pet. Also be sure to put the non skid mats that come with the steps on each step, they are easy install, peel of the back place in the proper area on the step, rub to make sure any bubbles are removed and pad is securely in place. ( I only had 1 or 2 small bubbles on one step, probably just from how a put it on.) Rub with your had to be check.I WOULD DEFINATELY BUY THIS BRAND OF STEPS AGAIN, WE MAY BE GETTING A NEW PET FAMILY MEMBER IN THE NEAR FUTURE, AND IF I NEED ANOTHER PAIR OF STEPS FOR IN THE BEDROOM I WILL DEFINATELY PURCHASE THIS BRAND.

This is my second purchase of these stairs
I have two Honda CRVs. In both cars the back seat is folded down and has a dog bed on top. First I purchased a ramp to allow my dog to enter at the back. It is a 6 foot long ramp folded into three sections. It is sturdy and heavy. Then I got one of these stairs. Not high enough for a back entry, but perfect for a front door entry: the top step of the stairs is even with the bottom sill of the door. The front seat is a fourth step, then my dog springs between the front seats onto her dog bed. This is NOT high enough to enter directly into the back seats with the dog bed on them. These stairs are very light weight and seem flimsy ... BUT my 85 pound dog can use them without difficulty or any collapse. They can easily be set in the foot well in front of the passenger seat, or, if you have a passenger, they can be set behind the dog bed in an SUV. I used to move the stairs from one car to the other, but I've decided to buy a second. I like this inexpensive but worthwhile solution to taking my dog with me almost everywhere I go. She loves to ride in the car.

I'd buy again
Just the right height for our couch and our twin size bed. But they're difficult to fold and store when not needed

It‘s not easy to fold, therefore not easy to store.
I read the doggy stairs could be folded up unlike some of the other doggy stairs. There isn’t extra room in our bedroom so I needed to be able to store the stairs under the bed during the day, and set up next to the bed during the night. My dog never used stairs before so we were training her.It was then we realized the stairs were difficult to fold even for my husband. So we have had to have the stairs set up, next to the bed, all the time. This wouldn’t normally be a problem except our bedroom leaves little room for anything extra taking up floor space.

Sturdy and stable, November 2023 style
Purchased November 2023. The style that we received include 2 plastic Bolts that prevent the steps from folding and keeps them securely in the deployed/open position. The steps are very sturdy and stable. We have several sets of plastic Pet steps and a set of wood steps. (Cats are happiest when they can access elevated perches and we don't want our 19 yo cat jumping.) The wood is the hardest clean and the heaviest. The plastic is easy to clean, durable, and doesn't break your toe when you accidentally trip over it during the night. This is a different style but they are seem quite sturdy and well worth the single Andrew Jackson that we gave for each of the two we bought.Wish I had ordered three sets instead of two.The only thing I dislike is the treads which you have to apply yourself. They don't fit precisely but once they wear out they will be easy to remove and I will probably replace them with Dip-it or something similar.

Not Sturdy Enough
These are NOT the steps for a senior dog. My poor Maggie was scared to death of them. They are too lightweight, a little flimsy, and not sturdy enough. I got them for her to get in and out of the car and they almost flipped over when she stepped on them crooked. Won't go near them now. Get something more durable.

Bought for pet rats
I bought the little ladder for my rats to be able to leave/enter their double Critter Nation safely and IT IS PERFECT for that. The is the exact height to the bottom of the DCN. And they hop up and down that little with ease ladder carrying their food from their open forage dinners. I love it.
