I rate the contents highly, the book reads well. However, I was expecting a stronger binding for the price, and the paper the pages were printed on is a bit too thin. Artwork could be in color too, many books provide figures in color nowadays. Overall, my congratulations to the author but a remark for the publisher

The books is useful for photonics graduate level students. It compiles with good explanation but with black and white figures. I didn't like the binding since it glued and may broken down anywhere. It is moderately easy to follow but you may need more references if you need to learn more details on each topic. Hopefully next edition will come with colored illustrations and good binding.

I highly recommend this for anyone who needs a cheaper alternative to the second edition of Kasap's book. The content is all the same.

The book is wonderful at breaking things down and making clear the way the world of optoelectronics works. I am very impressed.

This it the first update to a long-standing textbook, and the definitely did it right. Good introduction to the field - very broad application.
