Well, once these arrived I was really curious as to how these would break and look. We got to open the box and check it out before wrapping it and the one thing that stood out... Was it was all covered in dust (dirt dust, not shelf dust)! Like the box was taken on the hike and packaged out in the field then shipped from out in the field!Anyways, the box was cleaned up a bit and wrapped. I gave the gift to my mom, yes you read that right, MY MOM. She loves Geodes and I thought this would have been fun for her. Well, the joke was on me, because when she opened it, she really thought I gave her a box of just that.. ROCKS! lolThen I handed her a hammer (don't know what I was thinking there), told her to break open a rock... She tried to break it open on the rug, I quickly removed hammer from her possession and took it outside to the solid concrete patio and broke one open.(Now comes to the awesome part) She absolutely loved it. I told her that all 12 were random in what it contained and it's like having one of her decorative geodes, but golf ball sized.Next day, I found out she had broken all 11 rocks, except one that was doubled up. Yes, in a way we got 13, there were 12 pieces total, but one was actually attached side by side. She enjoyed the geodes so much and can't wait to display them. Now the jokes on me, because she wants me to build a display cabinet. T~TOVERALL: This was an awesome gift, also if you know how to play it right, it can be a great joke and great gift in one. Each piece was as described, no duds here. Absolutely beautiful little geodes, very sparkly and the colors are awesome. If you know someone who loves geodes and you want to have them, or yourself, break open some without having to hunt them down. This is a must get.Also for the durable rating as only 2 stars, well, you have to break them with a hammer, I mean, they're meant to be broken. =)

We got a variety of geodes. One was probably Smokey quartz. One was violet quartz. One was brown, very unusual. One black. It was great fun for a 9yr old girl. The variety made the price worth it. The price is high.She had some trouble opening some with a hammer. We used our own goggles not the ones provided. The included glasses were nice, but we didn’t use them. There is a risk of injury. Some break far more easily than others.

The only negative, is that from persons who have purchased these kits in the past have noted a decline in quality of specimens. I hope they return to the standard.That being said, I bought the large and medium kit so my reviews will be similar. This was a well thought out package and will certainly be my primary source of geodes.All were hollow geodes and this was greatly appreciated. The booklet was clear and easy to read. Pictures were a bit fuzzy. The breaking bags were a brilliant addition and came in very handy. There was a wide variety of geodes and presented an interesting variety of geological samples.The big win was how clean the geodes were. Minor washing was needed and you know you weren't being cheated.

Every stone was better than the National Geographic package. I actually got these just before Christmas after my first order was "lost." I actually cut one stone so accidentally perfectly that a 5 point star shape appeared on both sides! A Christmas miracle.

These were great, such a fun family activity. Yes they are small, but they definitely had some cool crystals inside of them. I will say though that they are alot harder to break open then the bigger geodes that we bought at our local rock shop. 12 of these took 3 of us about an hour straight to open. With a hammer. Lol. My daughter is 9 and pretty tough for her age, and she hammered away and there was a few times I had to take over for her.... and then I couldn't get it open, so in came my husband to Crack it. I gave these 5 stars, but could also be 4 stars because of the price. I think 25 dollars would be a good price for these. Anyway all in all, we had a blast with these. If you're family has a little Rock collection like ours, it's a super great way to spend an afternoon. Also, I would say 11 out of 12 of these rocks got some pretty good oooos and ahhhh out of us. My kiddo loves taking them to school to show them to her friends. 1 was just kinda Meh. Also make sure the kids wear some sort of glasses for flying debris! Have fun!!!

I ordered these as party favors for my 8 year old’s b-day, and was greatly disappointed when 2 of the ‘geodes’ were just lumps of quartz. So how do I explain to a bunch of kids that someone gets the ‘ugly’ rocks, as there were only enough to go around?

Included a few different sizes and more colours than any other geodes I've purchased. Definitely has variety and I enjoyed opening then all up. A few were 2 geodes stuck together. One had a different colour in each of the 2 sides.

Amazing quality geodes of so many different colours and shapes. Only minus is it is a bit on the expensive side.

God I love these so does my son , he likes to open them as much as I do
