Say Hello And Let It Go: I Am Not My Emotions

Inappropriate content
I bought this for my granddaugher. As a retired teacher, I read everything I give her first to make sure it is appropriate. In theory, this could be a good book. It encourages children to let their emotions go rather than let them fester. For each emotion there is a page that describes the situation and then "Say hello, and let it go." However the page that said,"When you get the painful news that someone you love has passed away...Say hello, and let it go." seemed way over the top. There are members of our family who are likely to pass away soon and that would just not be appropriate. In very poor taste!! I am sending this book back and encourage others to read it before giving it to a child.

Powerful for the littles and the BIGS!
A powerful and simple message for little ones AND big ones! Reading it to my 3yo and I was blown away by the delicate but direct way it models how to deal with uncomfortable emotions. So many true-to-life examples, an excellent way to give children the tools and the power to “let it go.” This book will be useful for our family for so many years to come! And, we met the Author!

It’s cute!
Bought it to read with my extra emotional 5 year old.. it might better serve us around age 8 or9. It’s lengthy and yet so basic she still just doesn’t get it. Good cute kids book though

Mixed messages
I loved the idea of this book, but I feel conflicted after reading it. It starts by saying that no feelings are bad, and we need to greet the feeling by name, accept it, and let it go. But in the book itself, it does not demonstrate acceptance. It appears that the emotions are greeted and then rejected - both in the pictures and in the words.

Great book to help with big emotions
My 4 year old really like the drawing of emotions to help give a visual to her feelings. I’ve even heard her repeat the mantra of “let it go” on her own.
