DURATECH 12-Piece Flex-Head Ratchet Spanner Set, 8-19 mm, Cr-V Steel

If you've ever skinned your knuckles on some previously-unseen part of your car's engine or bodywork, you'll appreciate being able to fit a spanner to the offending bolt and THEN sort out the best loosening technique....as opposed to the movement that the spanner dictates (ie the one that smashes your knuckles into the sharp heat shield!). Having had a slightly cheaper set of fixed-head ratchet spanners, which eventually 'lost its ratchet' (don't we all?!!), I decided to go for this more-expensive set....not least because I'd previously used a borrowed flex-head one from a neighbour....they are a game changer! You can immediately feel the better quality and see that someone has thought about the design - these spanners are both durable and versatile. Not only does the ratchet allow you to keep the spanner on the bolt / nut all the time, but the pivot in the head allows you to chose the angle that gives you the best (ie largest angle) movement. The 72-tooth ratchet also means that you can get the spanner onto the bolt / nut without contorting your hand/wrist/arm into a shape that a circus performer would be proud of. The spanner roll also means that you can keep these tools handy (but relatively clean and protected) in your normal tool box without it taking up too much space...why you'd pay ~£10 for a storage box (that you are bound to leave behind) is beyond me. Therefore, the cheaper option of the spanner roll is the one for me, and at ~£34 for 12 spanners this is great value for money.....I now need to find an imperial set to complement these metric ones.

Main differences between these and considerably more expensive set; back drag is high meaning you can fasten when you want to tighten on loose/ free fasteners when ratcheting, so a percentage of effort is lost. Does not apply with fasteners that lack free movement in thread. Torx Head of fixing pin is not machined as cleanly as the rest of the spanner, so can cam out if you need to tighten or remove. Chrome plating on open end jaws isn't spot on and may chip given extensive use. These are the only flaws of the entire set. You would need to spend at least double to potentially upgrade. The standard by which these have been machined is impressive, the finish for the price is impressive, the rigidity of the flex head to hold the desired position is impressive, the tolerance of the open end for size stated is impressive, even the tool roll for price point is impressive. Yes I'm impressed! I get how some would like an arrow indicating direction of rotation on ratchet end, but I can't mark it down for a feature professionals don't rely on. The direction the open end faces dictates which direction to turn. To summarise this is a bargain and would suit professionals as a second set and perfect for infrequent users. You won't find better at this price point. You've surprised me Duratech!

This was bought as a present for my son. He's very pleased with them. They are well finished with a fine tooth ratchet and excellent value for money.

Nicely finished tools and a complete set! Makes a change to actually get 16mm and 18mm! The ratchet movement feels precise and smooth, and they look/feel well made. Time will tell, but so far very happy. I think people who complain of breaking them are probably misusing them. They aren’t designed for hitting or adding extra leverage in an attempt to loosen seized nuts!

Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit dem DURATECH 12-teiligen Gelenk-Ratschenschlüssel Set! Die Verarbeitung ist hochwertig und die Schlüssel wirken stabil und langlebig. Besonders praktisch ist die Gelenkfunktion, mit der man auch an schwer zugänglichen Stellen problemlos arbeiten kann. Die Ratschenmechanik funktioniert einwandfrei und erleichtert die Arbeit enorm, da man die Schlüssel nicht ständig neu ansetzen muss.
