Oh My Gosh!! Everyone should listen to these inspiring words of Russell Simmons. For years his words have resonated with me. Russell is an experienced person that grew from the ghettos of America, realized that wasn't going to take him anywhere. He used his brain, and made something very very Great of himself and he teaches it to the world. WOW, all my best praises to you Sir!!! You are an inspiration to young and old people who have no clue as to where they are or they're going. Kudos to you my friend. I will always look for things you are involved with and there I will be. I am now a proud member of P.E.T.A. because of you and other organizations you participate in such as the David Lynch Foundation. Again, Tremendous insight into world within!! Thanks for doing what you do Mr. Simmons!! This book is Highly Recommended by me to everyone!! Lots of Pearls of Wisdom in this Book. Thank you Black Ice as well for narrating it. Do You!! What an inspiring powerful source! Who knew that this man could be all and everything that he is! AND at the same time, unveil to us that it isn't the stuff, it's the process; it isn't the material reward, it's the work. The pleasure is in the WORK and the CONTRIBUTION that we are to others. And that the music poo-bah and "ostensibly-low-on-the-totem-pole dishwasher" have the same opportunity, at despair or joy: it is always our choice.And did I mention that this extraordinary man is ALSO vegan, of yoga, loves animals and a great supporter of PETA, and, according to what is humanly said about him--"ALWAYS courteous AND authentic in ALL his relationships, whether they be at work or friendship."Crabby, critical, cautious, cynical me--I've been blown open by the Russell's speaking (which is how the book occurs: it's Russell speaking to me)!Thank you, Russell Simons--for all that you do& all that you ARE!

For all wanna be Entrepreneurs this is a must read. It shows you that if you just stay focused on your goal, not someone else, you will be OK. I just wish it would have been written earlier. Very inspirational, on how if you just Do You, you can still succeed beyond your wildest dreams. In most cases you fail your way to success. . With failure comes doubt and a waiver in one's belief. After reading Do you, it gives you the motivation to stay focused on your goal at hand. I conduct seminars on Real Estate and most come in with the idea that they will be able to outsmart the system and become rich overnight. Since I have read this book I have it mandatory for First Time Investors read. It gives you a clear example that no matter what the situation at hand is, you can succeed if you first believe in what you are doing. It also helps if you are doing it because you have some affinity to what you are doing, not just for the money. Most fail in my business due to the fact that they have little passion for what they are doing. Mr. Simmons gave me the added confidence to expand my business. In closing for those who do not like to read I bought the book and also a copy of the audio book to really get what he felt. "Do You" by Russell Simmons is an uplifting book that is akin to having a well-meaning and successful family member or friend who freely gives insightful advice that is coming from benevolent intentions. There were multiple lessons contained in this book that were highly informative to me. However, "Harness Your Vision" (pages 29-31) and "Smashing The Rocks" (a.k.a bulldozing through obstacles: pages 179-180) were two of the multiple concepts that resonated with me. "Do You" by Russell Simmons is best for those who enjoy books that are part biography and part self-help by those who have already achieved much success.

I see Russell Simmons in many definitions of the word extraordinary. (YES, A VERY EXTRAORDINARY MAN). I first ordered Russell book: (Super Rich), form Black Expressions book club. Reading the beginning of the book, had me realize that I needed to put that book back on the shelf, and order (Do You)! Of course I did exactly that. This book has me (SUPER INSPIRED, AND HAS CEMENTED MY INTEREST OF MY DREAMS). The reason I said dreams is because two VERY BIG TO ME DREAMS. I have been writing my (Stand-Up Comedy) for years, It`s not easy finding where to do stand-up comedy in the presence of a promoter. My other dream is to be a Fashion Designer. I have just signed in for schooling in, (Fashion Merchandising & Design). I am a mother of 5 sons, and 2 daughters, my youngest is 16 years old. (Now it`s time for ME TO DO ME). Being a mother of 7, I've always had to be creative in teaching, decorating for all holidays and everything. Anything other than that, Life would be very boring. LMBO!!!! I have always been infatuated about creativity since growing--up. I love the opportunity to meet Russell one day and compare creative minds together. Until then, I know I`m so going to enjoy Fashion Merchandising & Design School. (EVERYONE, BE BLESSED AND LIKE RUSSELL SIMMONS SAYS, NEVER GIVE-UP ON YOUR DREAMS)!!!!

i enjoyed listening to his book. it did help me to realize some things, to become spiritually and emotionally stronger. and to believe that there is hope, as long as you put your mind body and sould and your believes into what you are doing. just hoping and playing is not enough, but fighting and trying and hoping and believing is what it takes. i mean people may say he is cheesy, but i just think he is real, spiritual. for those that ever think that its cheesy, learn to listen between the lines. at leas i didnt fall asleep listening to him, unlike other books lol. ok

I love how Russell talks about the keys to success. This is a man with humble beginnings who made it to the top doing what he loves. When he speaks, everyone should listen. He is definitely a role model to emulate. I highly recommend this book.

I have read a lot of different self-help style books and I dont think that you will find anything within these pages that you wouldnt find with Jim Rohn (personal fav) or Dr Scott Peck, Les Brown etc. Also I would like to add that I bought this book knowing little to nothing about Mr Simmons, apart from his affiliation to Hip-Hop music.Review : What sets this book apart is the humility and honesty of the author. He offers advice that is heartfelt and honest, some of which, like other books of this ilk, is obvious, but he knows that and does not patronise the reader by stating the obvious like its some new world revelation. His language is a mixture of colloquial street venacular and the "Queens English". Basically he speaks to you in a language that you can understand and for me, as a child of the MTV generation, that makes a massive difference. Its like I'm listening to the advice of an older sibling or Uncle. His style can be quite rambling, but I find that even more enjoyable because you can tell he wants to share all this good information with the reader, and gets so excited he goes off on a few tangents. But he always returns to topic with a good moral, and the tangents are always relevent to the topic. I bought this book a few weeks ago and already it has had a huge influence on my life. I have been changing aspects of my life for the last few months (stopped smoking etc, started meditation etc) but this book has been a definate catalyst for change. Russell Simmons has given me advice and insight I expected to hear from my Father. This book is very good, because he introduces you and encourages you to look up other books too. This book is for everyone, BUT, I would recommend it more for younger people (teens, early 20/30s). It is not a literary masterpiece for sure, but it is a very relevant book. As a seasoned self help book reader I recommend it HIGHLY!!!. Thanks.

Great intresting read lots of knowledge, I gave this book to a waiter in Gambia and it changed his life.

Obvious tried and tested “rules” book, but nothing that great. Bit too much of his own views on everything.
