GE Profile Opal 2.0 Countertop Nugget Ice Maker

A friend had gotten one a year or so ago & we loved going over for friends & family functions because the ice was great. Fast forward & although a little pricey we decided this was our anniversary prez to each other. It was a pain to get it shipped since they don’t send to all parts of AK- but we did receive it, set it up & have been enjoying ice since! Our pup loves it too in her water dish now- so it helps keep her cool. I would recommend this make & model as we’ve seen it in action for over a year with no major problems.

Shame on me for buying this, as this is the 2nd one of these I’ve purchased!! The first one started leaking after about a year, of course, no warranty after the year. So bought the same one again cause I love the nugget ice it makes! This is my brand new one that started making this noise after 2 days-i called GE-they told me, drain it, unplug it and let it sit for 20 minutes and start over! Ok, and this is 6 days later-same BS!! Called GE since I filled out the warranty immediately and they said return it to amazon-even though last time THEY replaced it even though i bought thru amazon. They MIGHT replace it after 30 days-but since oh, it’s 2 weeks old-nope! MAKES NO SENSE!! These are not fixable, as I paid $100 for repair guy for machine 1 to look at it and says oh it needs a whole new internal motor which cost more than the whole machine! Now I have to ship this POS back to amazon-and it’s heavy-i cannot lift it so need help taking to UPS store AND of course i threw the box away that it came in and it needs to be boxed! MORE MONEY!!!! Ok, I’m done!! Anyone have a recommendation for a reliable crunchy nugget ice machine!

This is the fourth GE profile I have purchased. All have made great pearl ice; however the three initial makers all malfunctioned.

You can make a lot of ice, cleaning is easy, shuts off when there no more room for ice or water, makes ice in about 14 minutes the first time using it then 6 minutes on the rest of the times so it’s pretty fast on making ice, the first bit of ice to come out isn’t good quality but when it starts after 10 minutes the size is very good.

The unit I received had to be defective (received on July 7, 2026 and returned on July 30 - I'd only had it on for 16 days). There was a terrible squealing noise that caused me to have to unplug it several times throughout the day. It did make ice nicely, but I couldn't work with the noises. I reached out to GE Appliance for assistance and 12 days later, never had response. When I was finally able to get a phone number, they told me to return it to Amazon cause they didn't have parts to repair them. I had an Opal 1.0 nugget ice machine for 3 years and liked it. However, due to the poor customer service, I returned this unit and will not purchase another GE ice maker. I had to record the sound clips in video as this review platform doesn't accept sound clips.

I loved this initially. Even using distilled water, the hoses got clogged up with mineral deposits. Descaling didn’t help. I had to take it apart, which was a pain. For what it cost, it should have lasted more than 18 months.

Worked Beautifully until it didn’t.. I Cleaned it weekly.. ran it almost 24/7… I eat a lot of ice or package it for storage.. It lasted 2 1/2 years before it quit on me.. I felt like it should’ve lasted longer for the cost.

I was hesitant to spend the money on a countertop ice maker. I did a lot of researching and finally decided on the Opal. I am so glad I did. I have had about a month now. Makes great ice and is very quiet. I have not cleaned it yet or used the connectivity.

Only had machine 4 weeks. Works as advertised. Very happy with the quality of the machine so far. A little pricey but my ice machine broke on my 5 year old refrigerator and to get a replacement was nearly 3/4 the price of this machine. The GE Opal2 makes far better ice and much quicker. Put things in to perspective as far as I am concerned.

I ordered this as I had read many reviews about how good it was. It is a premium ice maker so it was expensive. It eventually arrived, followed the manual for setup, and it simply didn't work. It made noises, but never made any ice. It actually seemed like a cheaply made product, without proper quality assurance. Many people online talking about the same issue with it not making ice. Didn't have much choice, so sent it back. It is quite heavy, so a bit difficult if you have to re-package to return it.

The ice doesn’t last as long as refrigerated ice but I love it for my water bottles etc…

Been using it for 2 months and it is a god send. Takes about an hour or so to fill the bucket of ice. Some maintenance is needed, currently every month you need to do a cleaning which takes about 30 minutes to do. But it is worth it. If you are thinking of getting an ice machine, don’t look at others and get this one.

Stopped working after little use. Very frustrating. Don’t waste your money.
