An interesting and sometimes thought provoking book on the mystical aspects of some martial arts.
There have been very few books written on the esoteric theories of the martial arts. I have been a lifetime student of the martial arts (Judo, Jujitsu, Karate-Do, Military combatives, Krav Maga, Tai Chi etc.) and I have been fortunate to have studied under some of the best instructors in the world. Even though I have always been a scientific minded person, I am still open to other theories and hypothesis. I purchased this book on Amazon (Empty Force: The power of Chi for self-defense and energy healing by Paul Dong and Thomas Raffill) for a bargain price. I found this book very interesting and thought provoking; however, not compelling from a scientific point of view or from my own wide and varied martial arts experience. This 139 page book is organized into 8 chapters. Chapter one covers “the mystery of Chi” (Japanese call it Ki). The second chapter explains “the empty force” which the authors believe is the ultimate power. Chapter three deals with “the empty force masters” and I found this chapter quite interesting. “The great debate” on the esoteric and mysterious Chi or Ki is covered in chapter four. Chapter five covers the “martial arts, Tai Chi and Chi Kung.” “The healing power” of Tai Chi and Chi Kung is explained in chapter six. Chapter seven focuses on a “how-to guide to empty force. The final chapter has a number of students giving their personal experiences with empty force and Chi Kung.If you are a believer in pseudoscience and the mysticism aspects of the martial arts this book is for you. Personally, I have been a martial arts student and instructor (Judo, Jujitsu, Karate-Do, Krav Maga, Combatives, Tai Chi etc.) for 60 years and I have never seen in person any martial arts teacher who can knock people down without touching them. I did see a U-Tube film recently which showed a so-called master of Chi knocking down a group of his students he was sparring with without touching them. I also saw this same so-called master quickly get knocked out by a challenger who was not his student. Is it not truly AMAZING when reality punches you in the mouth?Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Empty Force - A Great Beginners Guide to the Famed Technique
Empty Force is well written and a great introductory guide to this long, sought-after martial arts skill. That said, there is only so much that can be covered and revealed in a book about this array of inner power techniques. One should find a proficient teacher, if possible, to get the first hand experience of an empty force practitioner. Otherwise, I personally feel that empty force needs to be learned by the individual in a trial/error sort of manner. One needs to apply technique, measure the results, and improve over time on what works and what does not - that said, this book is a great place to begin…it has certainly helped me better understand empty force and aided my journey with it...

informative
HAS A MARTIAL ARTIST OF 32 YEARS MAINLY IN INTERNAL KUNG FU, I FOUND THIS BOOK VERY INFORMATIVE, IT FILLS IN THE LINKS THAT ARE NEEDED IN DEVELOPING CHI, IT EXPLAINS IT EASY TO UNDERSTAND FORMAT WHAT IT MEANS, WHAT IT DOSE, HOW TO DO IT & WHY I HAVE PASSED ON TO MY STUDENTS WHAT I HAVE LEARNED & TOLD THEM TO HAVE A READ. I WOULD REC0MENND THIS BOOK TO MARTIAL ARTIST & HEALERS ALIKE. JOHN HOWE 6TH DEGREE CHUAN-SHU KWOON KUNG FU
