I wish all the toys I have purchased over the years have gotten used this much. The kids love the looks and they are durable for all the falls the take.

Great quality, durable, easy to insert batteries, my 4-year-old loves them. He played with some at a friend’s house and talked about them nonstop, so I added them to his Christmas list… They are ALL he’s wanted to play with since! He told me, “Mom, you did GOOD! These are my FAVORITE!” — so I consider that a win. 10/10 purchase!

To be honest, the wooden trains are better. They aren't motorized, but they are just better in every way. They are more wholesome, have no toxic parts, are much more durable, and there's just something innate to the wooden trains that the new plastic ones lack. What this has over the wooden trains is that it's a light, battery driven train that can roll on its own. That sounds great. My toddlers roll the wooden trains up and down their wooden tracks, so the self propelled will be more like an old-school train set, right? Wrong. This train basically doesn't work on wooden tracks. Even with the gentlest turns, it falls right off track. On a climb, it falls off the track. It's fine on descents and straights, but that's it. so it's a train that doesn't work on track, which means it's a slow, self propelled car that looks like a train. It rolls well over short carpet or rugs, and is great on tile, taking a few bumps fine. It's also fairly well made, can take a drop, and the batteries install securely so it will keep working when dropped. My children love the little facial expression as much as they do the wooden trains. They really like the red switch on this (most of the battery ones have a button). All in all I don't like this toy. I think people will see how great the wooden trains and tracks work, and get this hoping to improve on that, and be disappointed. However, if you don't use tracks at all and just want a motorized plastic train... I still think you should get the wooden ones, because they improve a toddler's coordination and motor skills, but the fact is that this is well made and actually a good value for what you get (other than the ability to work on track).
