Review: Solved my issues 👍 - Easy install and network management - Very satisfied with this set. Connectivity has notably improved (from very slow seed test results to fast in my weakest location), even though I still have a bottleneck unrelated to this product. I will try a different topology and update. Easy to set up with the app, which is very good, with a lot of features: easy network configuration and management, like using 2.4, 5GHz or both, allowed list vs blocked list, beaming, etc. The device design is also nice. It is not like having one of those old routers that looked like an electrical box. I am not using it with Alexa. TL;DR: great product, easy setup, speed: very slow --> fast
Review: Impressive improvement in speed and coverage - We have a long house (4,000 sq. feet) and because my modem was at one end we have used range extenders to reach TVs and computers at the other end. My son works in sales from home and required a faster and more stable connection than he had in his office at the far end from my modem. We decided to install a mesh WIFI system and chose TP-link's Deco S4 (3-pack). Once up and running (easy) we weren't able to achieve a faster speed than the range extenders. Although, things were slightly better in coverage and stability. After reading a lot about do's and don'ts of mesh WIFI systems we decided to return the Deco S4 and get the Deco AX3000 X55 (3-pack) system. Here are the early results: 1. My son's speed more than doubled to 535 Mbps, which is almost the same speed I get being directly connected to the modem at the other end of the house. In other words the rated speed that our ISP sold us. 2. The TVs haven't buffered even though we use streaming exclusively on 3 sets. Plus we have mobile phones and other assorted gadgets that use the internet. 3. My wife's PC, even farther than my son's, is getting almost double the speed (145 Mbps) that it got with the S4 and triple the speed she received from the range extenders. 4. Very easy setup via the mobile app. Here are some of the reasons why the newest mesh system is better from a technical perspective: 1. The AX3000 is rated at double the speed of the S4 (at less than double the cost on desertcart using their coupon). 2. The AX3000 has a maximum of 6500 sq. feet of coverage vs. 5500 sq. feet for the S4. 3. The AX3000 is WIFI 6 vs. WIFI 5 on the S4. This means a 50% increase in "streams" providing greater functionality and speed because there are more paths to the base station router. One of the x55s (base station) sits next to our ISP's modem and the other two are set up as satellites at the other ends of the house. Satellites can be connect via ethernet cable (called a backhaul) if you have cable already installed in some rooms. This should increase the throughput. Unfortunately, we weren't able to do this. 4. The AX3000 is smaller than the S4 and thus doesn't stand out as much. This is not a technical issue, however we plan to mount two of the units on the wall with wall mounts that can be purchased separately. The S4 is almost twice as tall so may tip out of the mounts easier. Plus the cord and charger is white rather than black so doesn't stand out as much. 5. Other systems are faster and cover more area, but are significantly more expensive for a 3-pack. Also most use WIFI 6E, which we don't need because we're in a single family home. I understand WIFI 6E comes with those systems because it's good for people in large apartment buildings. It's not faster but does have a third band in the 6 Ghz range which WIFI 6 does not. Update: I have had trouble connecting our solar panel gateway to the new system. Our solar system installer suggested connecting to the 2.4 Ghz band because or WIFI is now mesh. I didn't know we had that capability until I read an earlier post by another happy user. I will now research how to do this.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: We got 2 two packs and we want to have all four on our network. But it won’t let me have more than 3 in the app. How do I connect the fourth?**
A: TP Link allows up to 10 nodes on one network. I had trouble adding my 3rd node. I found that it helped out a lot to power them on and add them one at a time. Also if you are doing “wireless backhaul” your 4th node may be to far away from the other 3 nodes to establish a connection.
I would highly recommend running Ethernet cable to each node if at all possible in your setup. I did this and it doubled the speeds on my network. Hope this helps a little.

**Q: What's the difference between the deco X25 and this mesh system?**
A: Hi! The primary difference is the bandwidth. The X55 is an AX3000 system, offering up to 574 Mbps over 2.4GHz, and up to 2402 Mbps over 5GHz. The X25 is an AX1800 system, offering up to 574 Mbps over 2.4GHz and up to 1201 Mbps over 5GHz.

**Q: Have 3000 sq foot house but want to add on blink WiFi cameras outside. Will the system be strong enough?**
A: Yes. We have about 3700 sq ft. Thus the need for a mesh system. We have a detached garage with a blink camera perhaps 250 feet away from the house. I placed on of these mesh devices upstairs in the house for another work room. The blink camera is working just fine.

For point of reference - house is solid brick with interior walls also being brick covered with plaster (house is circa 1840's). So it has some solid walls to go through but the blink still works fine.

**Q: Can i connect these to a mobile hotspot and then plug ethernet from my pc into the deco unit? then i could connect ethernet cable to my jetpack?**
A: No, the first node has to connect via ethernet, as I've just discovered while trying to connect my outdoor to my existing wifi, which it won't do.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good app, easy setup. 10/10 experience
*by C***N on March 25, 2026*

Great system. Easy setup, no problems at all connecting it to my cable modem or configuring the 15+ devices in my home. Firmware upgrade was very smooth and without any issues. App is well designed and makes it easy to manage devices and enforce blocks or parental controls if desired. Initial comms from the deco to the app is via Bluetooth, but then once you configure your WiFi network its all WiFi from that point. The only hassle i had was with google/nest devices but that has nothing to do with tp-link at all. Easiest path for those is remove them, factory reset them, and add them as new.
