How to Play Backgammon: A Beginner's Guide to Learning the Game, Rules, Board, Pieces, and Strategy to Win at Backgammon

I recently rekindled a desire to play Backgammon, not having participated in the game since my early years in college.I ordered a few basic books on Backgammon for my wife and I to re-learn the game, and most were good references and resources. However, How to Play Backgammon, by Chad Bomberger was a total waste of money.First, how does one learn to plan Backgammon without a drawing of the backgammon board with direction of play and players courts explained? Not one in the entire book!Whoever set up the book totally messed the Table of Contents....the page numbers do NOT correspond with the various sections!Wish I could get a refund on this one!

I am even more confused now than I was before I read the book. There is not one picture or diagram in the whole book to explain things. That would have really helped a lot. I found it difficult to understand without diagrams. I'm going to have to get another book on the subject.

This is a terrible book for beginners which will only leave the reader with more questions than answers. For one thing, it's only about 37 pages, several of which are taken up with publisher information & ads for other books. So, you're left with about 28 pages of content which offer an extremely basic overview of the game. - and with no diagrams.I'm returning my copy for a refund. I had bought this with the intention of giving it an acquaintance who wants to learn the game, but this "pamphlet" is hardly an appropriate introduction.

If you simply want a book in basic rules and your new set did not come with instructions then this 30 page flyer style book is sufficient. However if you are looking for anything substantial, this is not the book you want. I bought this for a friend who recently learned how to play backgammon and was hoping that it would include some of the “good” opening roll moves...it did not. I was actually embarrassed that I had claimed this was a gift and if it was not in such poor taste to take a gift back, I would have returned this book without hesitation. Give the game more credit than to put such little effort into a book on “how to play.” This book offers nothing more than the basic rules that are available in any Walmart backgammon set you buy. Many of the 30 pages only contain one line and the entire experience of reading through this title is short and unsatisfying. Booo!

There are no pics or drawings of how to set up the board. The rules are scattered throughout the book and no index so forget about finding them.Do an online search or go to YouTube. This book isn't worth the paper it is printed on.I would have given it no stars but that wasn't an option.

I started playing backgammon again after many years and wanted to use this book to refresh my memory on rules and strategy. There really is not much content here - very skimpy. Also, there are no diagrams/illustrations, not even for the board layout at the beginning of the game - he describes by point number where to place the checkers, but one picture would be worth the thousand words he uses to describe it. Don't waste your time. Also did not answer my questions on some of the finer points of rules - found myself doing more googling than reading to get the answers I wanted.

I guess if you are a true beginner and have never played before, this book might help you get the idea. But I am a sort of new player and have questions on some of the rules that seem unclear to me which are not answered anywhere in the book. So it didn't help me at all.

Very short less than 34 pages no drawing, diagrams, pictures etc to help a beginner. Please note this book is How to Play Backgammon A Beginners Guide but that is not what it does. Don’t waste your money on this “book” it’s a JOKE!

No diagrams, 30 pages of A5 paper. Could have been written on five sides of A5

Wanted a simple introductory book for my grandaughter. Waste of money, unintelligible, doesn't even have a diagram of how to set up.

Instructions could have been clearer in some places but we managed to learn how to play in the end.

Never shows how to set the board up needs a picture or set up
