Since this is not a 'real' Cat5 or Cat5e cable - it's CCA (Copper Clad Aluminum) and a cable has to be pure copper to meet the specifications, I was hesitant, but also curious to try it and see if it performed as well as a real all-copper conductort cable. I was curious to see if the fear mongering about CCA was well-founded or overblown by testing it myself, as I couldn't find any useful test results by googling. The skin effect is a real, established phenomenon in physics (which I studied at university), so I suspected that the cable would perform well, and that CCA Ethernet cable is actually a good idea. For competing arguments one can read up on what companies like Belden and Sewell say online. (I wouldn't use it for POE applications, or for a cable that moves often - such as a patch cable used to connect an often-moved laptop.)What matters most to me is how it actually performs. Results: I'm getting a solid Ethernet level connection negotiated to 1Gbps, and 0.0% packet loss to my router (running mtr (Matt's trace route) for days; stats for first hop).Review the netstat manpage to understand how to look at Ethernet level packet loss on your OS. On macOS Sierra, I found: netstat -s | grep checksum shows 0 errors (over several days of heavy use). Speedtest.net results are great given my cable Internet connection's rated speed (see result/5834785193), but that doesn't say much; it's no feat for a 1Gbps ethernet connection to handle 170Mbps, however 'netstat -I en0 -w 10' during the test shows 0 packet errors. This seems to disprove the claim that in general one can expect significantly "greater loss of data, as packets have to be re-transmitted." netstat -I en0 shows less than one error per million packets. When using it to transfer files between computers, I get speeds suggesting no significant packet loss.In terms of the physical cable itself, the one I got is imprinted "CAT5E UTP PATCH CORD TIA/EIA 568B". The wire is very small gauge. It's amazing that gigabit ethernet works over this cheap wire. The first Ethernet protocol for UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) was a 10Mbps protocol (0.01 Gbps)... ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good cable *by J***M on Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2016* This is a well built cat 5e Ethernet cable. For those to whom the term cat 5e is unfamiliar, it mean that it can transfer a gigabit of data per second. A gigabit is an eight of a gigabyte. To put that in perspective, most people operate with Internet speeds around 30 Mbps while others use up to 100 or even 200 in rare cases. The limit is almost exclusively ever exceeded by moderate to large businesses. This cable is small and has well manufactured rj-45 connectors (the tips). I haven't any problems with it breaking yet or any problem manovering it around my home. I recommend this cable to anyone considering it. ### ⭐ NOT Cat5e standard cables - terrible quality. Spend a few bucks more for a real cable *by A***Y on Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2017* The cables I received were very thin and of poor build quality. They were NOT built to Cat5e standard. I foolishly used them to extend my ethernet network. After installing the cable behind a wall, I discovered they DO NOT operate as fast as Cat5e should. At first I thought it was simply a bad connector, and so I cut the cable in an attempt to install directly onto a Cat5e jack. I discovered that the internal twisted cables are so thin they will not even mount on a punchdown jack - the jack will not form any connections with the internal cables.My recommendation: spend a few dollars more and get a real Cat5e cable that will last you a life time.
