what is the magnification?

If the magnification is 1.75x this is a 3 diopter lens. If it says 2.25x this is a 5 diopter lens. The higher the diopter the stronger the magnification is. Remember that if you choose let's say a 5 diopter lens your magnifying lens will need to be about 7 to 9 inches away from object you are working on to bring object into focus. If you choose a 3 diopter lens you would be about 13 inches away from object to bring it in to focus.

Will this lamp clamp to an overhead joist in a basement over the workbench? Will it mount and work inverted in that application?

I'm not sure I have a clear picture of your application. I'm not at home (where my light is) as I write. I think the lamp head would rotate 360 for inverted use, but the lamp base is definitely designed to fit vertically into the clamp. I bought another clamp that is attached via screws rather than clamps, but still, gravity holds the lamp into whatever base you choose. I hope this is helpful.

Hi, The lens is aprox. 4 3/4" across. It's a very good quality lens, with no aberrations that I can see. I like this light very well.

On the lights lowest setting do both the cool and warm lights stay on? I am trying to get it to the the lowest warm setting only ie turn the cool off

Both cool and warm have 5 settings. Adjusting either one to the lowest or highest setting does not effect the other. On mine neither goes off unless you hit the off/on switch then both rows of lights go off.
