Masterwork Classics: Level 3, Book & Online Audio Review: Nice Selection of Classical Music - After finishing Alfred's Adult's Self-Teaching book, I decided to go to Alfred's level 2, but then I got this book to use alongside of it. As it turns out, I am finding Masterwork Classics 3 to be more enjoyable. Alfred's does a lot with chords in the left hand, but not so much left hand independence. Masterworks is better for that. I also prefer the classical pieces in Masterwork Classics compared to the hodgepodge of folk, rock, gospel, classical music of the traditional Alfred's. Mind you, eventually I would like to be able to play rock/pop as well as classical, but for now I am wanting to play the classical pieces in Masterworks. Maybe I am enjoying them more because they sound better in its simplicity. I don't mean to bash Alfred's. I am grateful for being able to teach myself piano with their method book, and I plan on continuing my studies in Alfred's 2. The CD which comes with it is nice. It's just piano and nothing else. I often listen to it in the car so that I get used to the melodies, consciously or subconsciously. By the way, Alfred's is also the publisher of the Masterwork Classics series. Great for the piano teacher or self motivated student. Each book comes with a CD of the music to speed learning.
