I purchased the variable speed Iliving fan model and also Iliving’s controller. The controller comes with a remote control that allows setting a desired temperature/humidity. The controller sets the speed in steps so the fan operates at lower speeds when temp/humidity is close to the set point.The fan is very well made and is supplied with decent instructions. Mounting is easy if you can provide an approximately 21 x 21 inch wall opening.As a few others have pointed out, the aluminum shutters are light and may remain very slightly open with fan off. The struts for the shutters are galvanized steel. I popped 3/8 disk magnets on the stunts so that as the shutters close, the magnets are attracted to the vertical rib in the center. The magnets help keep the shutters closed, but are easily overcome when the fan turns on. I also built a plywood box to hang over the fan in winter because the is a slight air gap around the outside of the shutters.The fan is efficient, fairly quiet, and easily keeps my garage attic comfortable even an hot days.

Replaced a rotted window in my detached garage with this fan, worked right away no issues with vents closing as others suggested. Had to tweak my mounting screws to get 100% smooth operation.My only suggestion for anyone is go with the biggest size you can fit, if I could do it again I'd go bigger. It moves decent air but I could use more in my space

Made a huge difference in moving air in and out of our attic. Temps up there even with continuous soffit vents and ridge vents were upwards of 145 degrees during the summer in NC. Our housing inspector when we bought the place (it was summer time) was up there for only 10 minutes and said it was dangerously hot up there and likely would shorten the life of the roof by 15-20%. Our attic above the second story was soooo hot for so long that many of the roof trusses had literally oozed out pitch for 30 years forming stalactites.There just wasn't enough air movement up there nor enough passive thermal convection to the outside to keep the temperatures at a reasonable level. So as a last ditch we added this fan at the one gable end to help expel the hot air. Almost everyone online said no don't do that, but i did anyways and set it to turn on at 100 degrees. Low and behold our attic rarely gets hotter than 115 now when it's 95 outside which is a HUGGGEEE improvement over the prior conditions. I am not a firm believer and just order another thermostat switch and 18 inch fan for over top of our garage and breezeway addition which is a separate roof and attic to deal with that hot space.Some of the commenters have commented on the noise and it is a bit loud, but all you hear down below in the living space is a fan noise and it's really not that noticeable. Absolutely worth the money in my opinion.

It's loud, but it does seem to be solidly built. I like the fact that you can install it different ways. I ended up installing the fan on the inside and the louvers on the outside. The instructions are okay but don't really give any detail. Watch a few Youtube videos before attempting to install.

I installed this in my gable end in about 1 hour with a saw and a drill. Pulls mad air from my attic.

I’ve never installed anything in the wall of a shop before. I bought some head trim that’s color matched to my shop. Did the install myself and the wiring with the speed controller. I was assuming this would be loud and annoying in the metal wall. It’s very quiet. I had to shut off the fans on the floor to hear this one running on high. I can’t imagine ever running it on anything but full speed cause you don’t need to slow it down due to noise. Very pleased. We also put 2 new windows in the shop. It’s hot in Texas

I designed and build a generator shed which had cooling issues with a 12" fan that claimed a higher CFM. I replaced it with this fan and I'm very pleased. This fan is balanced, easy to install and very effective. It has a running power factor of 0.95 which is great for off grid intallations.

Easy to install. 4 beefy machine screws hold the fan to the louver so I removed the fan to install the louver, which made it much easier. The louver doesn't seal tightly enough to keep out insects, but I suppose you could stretch a piece of screen fabric between the louver and the fan before re-assembling if that were a concern. I wired mine with a simple appliance cord (no speed control). Yes, the junction box is kind of small and it was tough in particular to get the cord's stranded ground wire wound around the ground screw. Would have been easier with a solid wire.But the bottom line is, it blows a lot of air and I think it's really going to keep my garage/shop a lot cooler this summer! Also, this was about 2/3 the price of similar items from Northern Tool, etc.
