You can make a 2-bottle, 3-bottle or 4-bottle holder with the parts, if you have enough of them. **Q: Top shelf , is it sturdy enough to handle crock water dispenser with a 5 gallon on top?** A: I think not. It is not an issue of sturdiness but rather that you will exceed the weight capacity of the unit. Conceivably it might work if you did not use the compartment for one of the two bottles. Instead, I would suggest you do what I did. I purchased one of these units from Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001MS6WMO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It matches nicely and you can put the crock on top of this stand plus roll it around for purposes of cleaning. You also get the bottom shelf for storage of cups, coffee, tea, etc. I will comment that the top shelf IS study enough for an electric teapot or coffee maker if that is something you would like to do. Another option for you is to purchase a spigot of some sort - assuming you have not already purchased the crock - and attach it to the top water bottle. I found that option to be much more cost effective although arguably not nearly as attractive. As for putting a third bottle on top of this unit, that is something which I would not recommend. You are likely to collapse the unit at some point if not shortly after you do so. **Q: We live in earthquake country. normally i'd bolt the top unit to the wall but since they just stack together i'm afraid they'll pop apart. suggestions** A: We have used plastic tie-wraps to secure the stacked units together, and then use a screw eye into the wall with 2 tie-wraps loosely looped together - one through the screw eye and the other around the units.
