Perfect for entire family.
This game was an instant hit in our house. My son has many Wii games and aside from the Wii Sports, the rest of the family doesn't utilize any of them. Big Brain Academy is something that my 10 year-old can play with Mom and Dad. The game has various levels that go from easy to expert so you are able to set your own pace and advance the skill level when you are practiced and ready. The idea throughout the game is to improve your grade by increasing efficiency as well as correct answers. When I ordered this game, I had hoped it would be challenging enough for me. However, after the first time we played, I found that some of the categories are very difficult (at my beginner status), especially at the "hard" and "expert" levels. Looks like I will need to practice so I can beat my husband and son in our next match. I would recommend this game to families and to the competitive individual who enjoys a challenge. Much fun to play as a group or alone.

fun game!
I bought this game for my husband from his wishlist. It turned out to be a fun game that we both enjoy plus great for parties! We had our friends over and compared our "brains". It was a blast seeing what each other was good at or not so good. The commentary is a bit tedious to go through after awhile but that's what the "A" button is for! This is about our 7th game to get for the Wii and it was worth the purchase! There are lots of options on it to keep us entertained for awhile. I was worried that this seemed more oriented towards kids and we'd go through it fast but it doesn't seem that way (maybe that says something about our intelligence but I don't want to go there!).

Not that much fun, but interesting and rewarding
When I first got this game, I found it really interesting and exciting. I played solo most of the time, and I enjoyed challenging myself to get a better score. I worked my way up from C-- to A--. It is actually hard to improve on your score, especially as you go up the ladder. Your head needs to be in focus for at least 10-15 minutes per set of tests. A little mistake in the middle would bite and frustrate you. Plus, once you start get a hang of the questions, your brain would probably be tired by then. It was fun though, especially if you are the ambitious type who always want to beat your own best score ;) I played this game a couple times with my friends as well. It is definitely a fun and healthy competitive game. I suggest however, that you do not play with people with big 'ego' :) And have people with similar level play against each other for optimum adrenaline rush! Teaming up with your friends to solve individual test can be fun too. But as time is a crucial factor determining your score, it is probably not reasonable to take in many inputs from your peers to beat the clock. Buy this game and get a mental lift! Don't overdo it though, as you may end up draining all of energy ;) There aren't many variety of the games, so you will get bored soon if you play it all the time. I personally play this game just once or a couple times a month when I am bored, so it serves me well.

Fun but can get old quickly
The concept of Big Brain Academy is a good one. Perform a set of exercises to stimulate your brain and improve its abilities. This game first came out on the Nintendo DS, after the success of Brain Age. The way you do the exercises is with a set of colorful mini-games. The game groups its 15 mini-games into 3 games in each of 5 categories: Analyze, Compute, Memorize, Identify and Visualize. The faster you complete each mini game, and the more answers you get right, the higher your score. By yourself, you can do two events: Test or Practice. In Test, you perform a series of the mini-games for about a minute in each category. Your score in each category is added up, and the Professor presents an overall score. You get a grade, from C-- to A++ based on your score. In addition, based on which categories you did well, you get a "profession". In Practice, you choose a mini-game category and perform that category for a minute. You can get awarded medals --- bronze, silver, gold or platinum, based on how well you did. Your results in solo practice are saved in your "Student Record" which you can send to others via Connect24 or view in the game's Office. For the Wii, the biggest change is how Nintendo revamped the game to allow more multiplayer options. There are 3 multiplayer modes---Mind Sprint, Mental Marathon and Brain Quiz. Mind Sprint is the most competitive --- choose a difficulty level and race against someone else to complete the mini-games first (a mistake means you do the game over). Mental Marathon is a cooperative game. One player starts, then performs a fixed number of mini-games. Then, the player hands off to a different player, who continues. When a player makes a mistake, the game is over. Finally, Brain Quiz is competitive but has a game show feel. Players pick one of 15 panels. Each panel has a random mini-game category and difficulty. The highest overall score wins. In this mode there is an extra mini-game that appears sometimes where you listen to orders and must select what the person ordered. The biggest downside to the game is that there are only 15 mini-games. After playing this for a few weeks, the game can feel repetitive. It's a lot of fun for family and friends, and it definitely helps you improve your brain but it doesn't have huge replay value because of the small number of mini-games. If there were 30 mini-games, this would have much more replay value.

Not worth it for adults
Huge downfall to the game is its lack of minigames. 15-20 for this game, versus over 60 when mario party 2 came out. Really disappointing My GF and I, both mid 20's, thought the brain age series was worth a try. I had played a ds version in a store and liked it. This game is no better than the ds version. We also bought it to be used as a bonding experience. This game made bonding worse. It relies more on the speed of your clicking icons/answers than it does using your brain. I dominated her because of my experience with the wiimote versus her first experience with a console system. Everytime I beat her in a game that measures your intelligence made me feel more guilty when i won because it seemed to lower her self esteem with each win. Not to mention the 2 player games require you to pass the controller around instead of using your own. rent this and you prolly wont buy it.

I LOVE THIS GAME!
This game is so awesome! Its very addicting. Its the perfect way to unwind after a long day. My husband and I have a lot of fun doing the competitions and our 5 and 6 year old daughters love it as well. Its easy enough probably for a 4 year old and hard enough for a professor! We have had Wii Game nights with my parents, our kids and us and its fun for every age. (I have never played the original version and apparently I hear its not as good, but since I have no knowledge of the first one, this one is AWESOME!)

Great game that will make you challenge yourself
This is a fantastic game that challenges your mind in a very playful manner. The more you play, the more you want to beat your previous scores, as well as the scores of others. Apparently, games such as this are proving to be very healthy for the brain, and for preservation and improvement of cognitive abilities. Be careful, though, as you might find yourself frustrated if you can't get your brain to "weigh" more than other peoples' brains!

Too much talking, not enough game
Do you enjoy watching a hundred dialog screens between each 90-second game? Screens like: "Hi I'm Dr Node" [press A button] "Welcome to Big Brain Academy" [press A button] "We are going to have a lot of fun" [press A button] "first lets register" [press A button] "let's see your score" [press A button] "your score was ____" [press A button] "great job" [press A button] "try to get more next time" [press A button] "here's a bronze medal" [press A button] "let's see your score again" [press A button] "What a big brain you have" [press A button] "I haven't said anything informative yet have I" [press A button] "isn't this cute?" [press A button] "not tedious at all" [press A button] "you like having gameplay constantly interrupted, right?" [press A button] "it's like sitting in traffic!" [press A button] "you drive for 30 seconds" [press A button] "then sit and wait for me as I chew your ear off" [press A button] "and you can't even just hold down the A button" [press A button] "you have to wait for each text box to pop up" [press A button] "and only then can you skip it" [press A button] "okay, next game!" [press A button] "no wait i changed my mind" [press A button] "lets show you a crappy navigation scheme based on a school hallway" [press A button] "seems like the only qualification of the gamemakers who designed this..." [press A button] "was their agreement to sleep with the men and women at our HR dept." [press A button] "okay, let's play!" The brain games themselves are fun, but the hassle of getting to each one exceeds the pleasure of actually playing. (This complaint is similar to that of Wii Fit, where each exercise is punctuated by intro and outro dialogs that destroy any rhythm you might have built up.) It seems like a lot of Wii games do this, which is why i don't buy a lot of Wii games anymore. "Wii Big Brain Academy" will be collecting dust on the shelf. :(

Good family fun
I use to have this game when it first came out on my Ds! Now I'm a mother, and suddenly got the urge to play. The kids really enjoy it! And improves mental maths and other exercises included!

Fun for all the family
I bought this for my Mum after she'd become addicted to Brain Training on my DS. We both love it - she's 50 and I'm 19. The different difficulty levels means that it's also great for younger players - from the age of about 10. It's more friendly and cute than Brain Training and it also has a bit more variety which is great. It's good to play on your own but really fun to challenge someone else in a mind sprint. My only criticism might be that there's a bit too much talking but it doesn't bother me that much. It's definitly well worth the money.
