This is micro-USB cord that terminates in two male USB connectors, to give double power to your device.I have an external hard drive that stopped working on my computer (because a broken graphics card seems to have shorted my motherboard, somehow) and I believed that I was not going to be able to use my external on my computer anymore.Until I read something about the drive not getting enough power. Someone had a problem similar to mine, and that was one of the suggestions. The cord is cheap so I purchased one.I excitedly plugged it in -- with no result. Believing that perhaps I merely needed to delete the device and tell my computer to detect it again, I moved the mouse and began to open the device manager when I suddenly noticed an icon appear in the taskbar.It was installing the software to detect my device!"Wait for it--"And BAM, up comes the auto-run and I am ecstatic!Cable works great and I am a happy customer!

I cannot say anything about the durability since I just started using it but so far, so good.

I got the shorter cable, which works fine. Just be aware if you need more space to work from you better purchase the longer cable.

The longer cord is very useful. This cable, with the extra (power only) USB connector, is a must have, if you have an externally connecting HDD. I've had a Hitachi 60GB SATA II laptop hard drive installed in a generic USB 2.0 external adapter case that came with a dual USB connecter cable like this, though much shorter and, I didn't much use it, preferring to use the longer mini USB to standard USB cable I already had to connect the HDD with. Well, after a few months, the drive started acting up, write errors, device dropping from Windows system and reconnecting, etc. When I realized it might be a low voltage issue, I went back to using the included cable and the problems ceased. I got this cable so I could place the drive back in its usual place on my desk. Works great!

StarTech makes quality cables. This is very compatible and just the thing you need if you need to provide additional power to an external USB devices like a hard drive that might not get quite enough power from a single USB port.

I've tried this on my hp DVD disk player as well as the memorex both did real well. Having that extra ump from the power cable really helped the burning speed.

This solved my problem with an external CD/DVD drive that arrived DOA. The drive (sold as used) had a cheapo replacement cable and was completely non-functional. With this cable it can draw current from 2 ports; but also works reliably only on the black one. I would recommend for any device that needs more power, and this weird old, "mini B" plug.

I used it for both of my 2.5" SATA Drive Enclosures, after my son lost the Y-cable that originally came with one of them. So I am pleased that it works with the drives, but I am irritated that I paid for a Y Cable and only got the benefit of a single cable.The main (black USB) cable transferred a 1GB file in just over 70 seconds. I tried copying the file with both the red & black USBs plugged in, and there was no change in the speed. So I unplugged the black one, but left the red one plugged in, and my computer registered that the drive had been entirely disconnected. So don't expect any change in speed with this "Y Cable" vs it's I-Cable.
