Ultimately, I give this knife 5 stars due to its overall value. Some of the things that other reviews complain about are simply issues you are going to have with a $30ish knife. If this knife were lost or stolen, you would replace it immediately. I can't say the same for a higher end, and thus higher price tag, knife. It more than does the job for the money. The good: --quality metal and construction for the money; based on the sharpening regimen I put it through out of the box, I would say the metal is similar in quality to Bucks 420 HC, which is quite good. Blade shape and profile make for easy sharpening on an Arkansas stone. Full tang means good balance and durability under hard use, grips are patterned in such a way that, though unconventional, provide significant purchase during use. The sheath, though basic, is utilitarian, modular, and made of durable material (kydex). The sheath hardware us easily replaced at any hobby or home improvement store adding to its longevity. I personally appreciate a no frills sheath, as it makes the knife itself more affordable. The meh: I say meh, because there's nothing bad, per se', about this knife. Does the hardware holding the sheath together seem as though it will wear out over time (especially if you are adjusting the crap out of it constantly or overtightening the screws)? Yes. Will the hardware on many things bought in the $30 price range wear out over time? Yes. Could you get off your fanny and replace the hardware for very little money with minimal effort and time? Yes. The grip is a bit narrow for my hands, but I have huge hands, and I am used to folders with fatter grips by necessity. This thinness contributes to the overall ease of carry and, if that is your thing, concealability, so it is not a meh factor per se'. The grind on the edge was not consistent from the factory, neither was it hairsplittingly sharp. It's $30 folks, remember. Using a hard Arkansas stone I ground down just enough of the edge where, when placed at a 22-ish degree angle on the stone no light shone through on each side. I then moved up to a black Arkansas stone, and it is now shaving sharp. With minimal time, effort, and know-how all the meh factors are easily dealt with, yielding a well above average, if not exceptional, product for the money. With realistic expectations about this knife you will be quite pleased with your purchase. If you like tanto style, fixed blade knives, and saving money, don't hesitate to pick up this little bargain.

I love the look of this knife. The weight of it is good, feels reasonably well balanced. The sheath is nice, & the belt clip isn't as terrible as everyone says - not good by any means, but usable in a vertical position like it comes out of the box. Edge retention isn't great, but it's working fine so far to tote around w/ me at work. Typical Schrade quality level - middle of the line quality, for bottom of the barrel prices. *6 month update - so edge retention is better than I originally thought, after running it down to 1800 grit & then a strop. Only had to sharpen it 2 or 3 times, & I've cut stranded 10 ga wire with it several times using something heavy to hammer it through. I've pried w/ the tip & only broken off the very tip of the tip. Can't even tell unless you look really close. The finish is holding up nicely too. I did manage to crack the sheath when the handle caught on something & pulled sideways. I have it on a more solid belt mount - using the factory clip, it probably would've flexed enough to save the sheath. Still not an issue to keep using it. Knife retention is very slightly looser than when it was new, but not by much, even w/ the cracked sheath. Keeping the original 5 stars based on quality vs price, as well as value. Exceeding my expectations so far.

I really like this knife. I wanted a fixed blade that was small enough to not be a pain on my side. It seems to be constructed well. I like the patina on the blade. Very rugged looking. The handle material is nice too. The design is most likely CNC as it is identical on both sides. Not extremely sharp out of the box, but would cut. Good feel in the hand. I like the sheath it came with, but I had to modify it so that I could clip it on and off. The way it is, you would need to run your belt through it every time when putting it on. Not fun... It is a little loose for my taste. I think that the taco style sheaths don't hold the knife as well as the sandwich style. I am impressed with their effort on it though. I got it for $31 which is a good price. I wouldn't go over $45 for it.

I wasn't expecting much from a knife at this price but I'm impressed. My plan is to keep it in my emergency bag but I wanted to give it some daily use before comiting it to that purpose. I have a CRKT M16 4" folder as my edc/work knife. It gets heavy use and abuse cutting boxes, zip ties etc. I sharpen it just about every week. I've been using the SCHF15 for a week now and it's held up nicely. The edge is in good shape and the finish is still intact. I want to use it for a couple more weeks before I give it the ok but here are a few observations. I like the size. I didn't want a huge blade because I'm limited on space and I just don't need anything that big. I did, however, want a handle that fit my hand. Im a fan of the tanto blade, purely my choice of blade style. This one has a nice angle. I've seen tanto tips that are, in my opinion, way too pointed. I like the material of the grips but they are a bit thin. The carved out design gives a decent hold. I don't like the fact that the grip material is not flush with the edges of the handle. I've never cared for that design. I may make grips that work better for me down the road. The butt of the knife has a bit of a square end, It digs a bit in my hand. I may change that down the road. The sheath that came with it is a well made Kydex type. It fits the knife perfectly. Retention is great as I move around quite a bit all day an I feel confident that it will not fall out. Removing the knife is not a struggle and replacing the blade is a snap. I prefer to carry horizontal on my belt, cross draw. The sheath comes set up for vertical carry. Two Philips head screws hold the belt loop on. I mounted the sheath for horizontal and removed the excess mounting holes. The loop fits up to a 2" belt. All in all, I feel that this is worth the money. Not a perfect knife for me but I do like carrying it. So much so that I even considered buying a second one. Minus one star for my personal gripes but I would give 4.5 if I could.

Received my knife quickly from best service stores so a quick shout out to them and it was also properly packaged for shipping. So I have not taken the knife out in the woods for heavy use yet, but from my initial experience with it I am happy with the knife. The type of steel used in this knife is not the highest quality of knife steels, but I knew that going into the purchase so that is not an issue for me. I bought this with the intention of hoping it was a good knife for the 31.69 that I paid for it. So not withstanding the type of steel used, I was very pleased with the design and features for this price range. The black stonewashed finished is an extremely attractive finish in my opinion and I have recently been purchasing a few knives in this finish and I have been pleased with all of them. The tanto style blade is a favorite of mine but I also like the other blade styles that Schrade offers. The steel is of ample thickness for a knife this size and I would think it would hold up well if used appropriately. While the video shows this knife being used for heavy bushcrafting type tasks, I would think a higher priced/higher quality/larger knife might be a better choice....but that's just my opinion. With that being said, I don't think you would need to baby this knife either. My knife came sharp out of the box and I have not used it enough to dull it so I cannot attest to how well it holds an edge, or how easily it might re-sharpen. Since I own good stones and know how to use them, I do not think this would be a tough task to keep this knife sharp. The handles are one my favorite features on this knife. They are black G10 scales with a very rough scalloped surface which have a very grippy feel to me. And one thing I cannot stand is a knife handle that is smooth and slippery. I think you would have no problem hanging on to this grip while wet, dirty, cold, etc.etc. I showed the knife to several friends and they all commented on how much they like the handle. I wear size large gloves and I am pleased with the handle size. It does not massively fill the hand, but it does fill it enough to have good control over the knife while tasking with it. Smaller hands will like it even better. The scales were fitted well to the handle on my piece and they were not overly large or undersized in relationship to the handle underneath. They were just right. My intentions for this knife would be everyday use, self protection, and maybe some light trail use. For heavy woods use, this might be too small for most as it isn't a very large knife but it isn't designed to be a huge knife so not an issue for me. If you can purchase this knife around 32.00 or less I would say it's a great deal and you will be happy with it but over that it would be getting a bit pricey. The sheath is your typical fitted kydex type shrink to fit sheath that has a detachable belt loop to adjust between horizontal and vertical carry. The belt loop attaches with two screws like most of these types we see on the market. It does not have a pocket clip on the sheath but does have several grommet holes for lashing the sheaths to packs,etc etc. The sheath holds the knife very securely as they pretty much all do yet was easy enough to withdraw quickly. The knife will not fall out regardless of the position it is carried in. Like all of my knives, I might consider a little blue locktite on the scale screws to ensure they never come loose and get lost. Honesty, this is not a knife that will see super heavy use by me. But I think it is a great choice for general tasks, reasonable field type use (please no batoning on a knife this small...and it's dumb anyway) and even more so I think it would be capable if called on to stick someone with it if necessary in a self defense situation. But for thirty-one bucks and what I plan on doing with this knife, I was very pleased with it. While mine was sharp for my intended purposes, it was not razor sharp so yours may require just a bit of work. Lastly one thing we all commented on about this knife was it looks really "cool". Now I know just because a knife looks good, doesn't means it works good.....but what's the point of owning a knife that you think is ugly????? This one isn't ugly at all!!! As a matter of fact, I liked it so much I plan on buying the schf24 as well because I really think it is a useful design too. To summarize, I cannot give you a solid heavy field use review because I don't plan on using the knife in that way. But for what I bought it for and from what I can see, I was able to give it 5 stars. At this price range I consider it to be a really good purchase and it is an attractive blade to boot! ********UPDATE*********** Received the schf24 as a Christmas present. Love it for all the reasons listed above regarding the 15. Except I would say the handle has an even better feel in the hand due to being longer and also having a slightly different contour. The 24 is by far my favorite of the two. The 15 as excellent as well which is exactly why you need more than one!!!!!!

I really like this knife. Been using it everyday for a few weeks now putting it to work with all my tasks and it has performed fantastically. Cutting down lots and lots of cardboard, wire, zip-ties, paracord, cloth and plastics. I've used it a fair amount to carve basswood, oak and birch too. I'm no knife expert and definitely not knowledgeable about steel, but the steel this blade is made with is really good at keeping an edge and taking some abuse on top of that. Seems to be a good balance of both for the uses I'm using it for. I've dropped the thing a few times onto concrete and have had the smallest little dings or burrs as a result, which were easily fixed with a few passes on a high grit diamond stone and strop block. It feels great in the hand and I actually like the style of grip they used on it. I don't do too much stabbing, but when I have I never felt like my hand was going to slip forward onto the blade. The full tang is nice and makes the balance feel good to me, center weight being just below the index finger grip. The holster is fine for me, I can see why some people might have complaints about it, but I haven't had any issues so far. It seems like it can and eventually will crack if the knife hangs up on something rigid and gets pulled away from your belt. I drilled a few additional holes for the sheath to be able to mount a little different. I'm a leftie so it's always nice to have open mounting options for storage. I do agree that an additional mounting screw on the opposite side of the sheath would be nice to stabilize better. All in all I love the knife. The price was incredible for the quality, and I look forward to using this thing to the end and having another ready to rock.

Five stars even though it needed sharpening upon arrival I gave this Schrade SCHF15 knife five stars even though it needed sharpening right out of the box, when I received it. And when I say it needed sharpening, I mean the blade was dull. Dull, dull, dull. It wouldn’t cut anything. It would tear things apart but it would not cut. But inspite of its dull blade, I still gave this Schrade five stars because of the overall value it offers for the price. In my view, this is one heck of a knife for the money and if all it needs is sharpening, it is still a great value for the price. I looked at, handled, researched and reviewed dozens of fixed blade knives, all costing much more or many times more than what this Schrade cost, before I ordered. I only trust fixed blade knives for heavy and/or survival type use. Having to sharpen a new knife right out of the box was certainly unexpected; it was the overall construction and design of this knife that kept me from returning it. Putting the arrival of this new knife with a dull blade aside, I like everything else about this knife; its overall design, the steel that was used to make it, the durable and adjustable nylon sheath, the fact that the knife is a fixed blade knife, the thickness and tanto style design of the blade, the non-reflective blade finish, the durability of the grip, and the way it handles and feels in the hand. The sheath works as expected and is a great addition. I paid around 34USD for this knife on Amazon and would order another tomorrow, if I needed one, even if I knew that the blade on the second knife would arrive dull.
