Lucifer: The Complete Second Season (DVD) Season Two of LUCIFER promises to be the mother of all seasons as Lucifer (Tom Ellis) finds himself tasked with tracking down his mother, Charlotte (Tricia Helfer) while continuing to punish criminals alongside LAPD detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German). At the end of Season One, Chloe watched Lucifer die, only to come back to life, causing more confusion over who he really is. Now, Lucifer and his angel brother, Amenadiel (DB Woodside), will work together for one common goal – to find their mother, who escaped Hell. After all, Lucifer doesn’t take after his dad, so the parent he does resemble is sure to be quite terrifying. With mom on the loose, Dr. Linda (Rachael Harris), who’s become not only a therapist, but also a confidante to Lucifer, Amenadiel and Maze, will surely have a lot of advice to dole out. And, by the time she’s done, she may need a therapist of her own! Review: Everything even better, and now with drama, emotion and an emerging love story - Of the 3 seasons aired on Fox before Netflix picked the show, this season 2 is by far the best one. Mythology is considerably enriched in it, with the fall of the angel Amenadiel, the introduction, more than bold, of a Goddess of Creation, wife of God and mother of angels, the breathtaking revelation of Chloe’s true nature, and the Flaming Sword, once the lock of the Garden of Eden and the only artefact able to open Heaven’s gates, all plots that change what was only a cop-show tinged with supernatural into a further, constantly exciting, rewriting of Christian theology; characters all know an evolution too, new ones are introduced, the kind and cheerful Ella who avoids to be only yet another cliché funny lab nerd thanks to her mix of faith, helpfulness, sass and hints that she used to be a thug, or the said Goddess, secretive and worrying mother that we see full of love for her sons but too different from humans not to be a threat, and their relationships with one another are deepened and largely redefined: fairly in conflict in season 1, they become here one family, all there for each other, weaving or reinforcing links as touching as funny; and both sides, supernatural and intimacy, are perfectly linked, constantly feeding each other. But what really won me over, and that is the least I can say, the greatest success of this season, is above all the love story between Lucifer and Chloe. I didn’t expect it, I didn’t see it coming, and yet it burst in my face and is there, now, in front of me, engraved forever: it overcame Mulder and Scully for me! (which pretty much says everything). For me, it is the most beautiful love story I have seen onscreen for decades, a hidden attraction, impossible to admit but impossible to hide, moving to an almost insane point, because it’s not another will they-won’t they between a tough female cop and her goofy civilian consultant, but the impossible yet finally happened love beyond species between the Devil and a gift from God, the being condemned to embody evil to the point that he thought himself evil and hated himself for it, and the only woman who saw the good in him behind the prejudices and re-opened him to his humanity. Loving her enough to kill for her, loving her enough to die for her, allowing Tom Ellis to show us how damn talented he is, Lucifer however gives up on Chloe at the moment when, at last, he conquered her, when, at last, she loves him in return, because there is so much love for her and so much kindness for humans in him, that he doesn’t want to know that he is loved by a woman who has no choice, by a puppet created for him without having the right to choose if she wants him. No, this love is not only yet another will they-won’t they, but the tragic, in the literal sense of the word, impossibility for two beings who love each other because they have been forced to by the intervention of a higher power to love each other freely without the intervention of this higher power, and both its blooming and its sad end made me cry my eyes out. This season 2 therefore leaves much more room for emotion than the first one. And since it is also even funnier and even sexier, with again a brilliant soundtrack, you will easily understand that it’s a real delight to watch! Review: Even Better than Season One! - “Lucifer: The Complete Second Season” collects all 18 episodes of “Lucifer” as they aired on Fox. Joining returning characters Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German), Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside), Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt), Detective Daniel Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro), Trixie Espinoza (Scarlett Estevez), and Dr. Linda Martin (Rachel Harris) are Ella Lopez (Aimee Garcia), a forensic scientist, and The Goddess of All Creation (Tricia Helfer), the mother of Lucifer and Amenadiel. Ella Lopez so perfectly fits into the cast dynamic that it’s hard to recall that she wasn’t part of the group since the very beginning. Instantly likeable and fun with any of the main cast. The Goddess escaped Hell while it was left unguarded and now Lucifer and Amenadiel must help her find her way in human society. New forces, like the angel Uriel (Michael Imperioli), come to Earth because they believe her to belong in Hell. The Goddess draws upon any number of ancient traditions, including Asherah or Inanna, filtered through the comics and television influence of the series. With all the supernatural elements on Earth, Linda learns the truth about Lucifer – or, rather, that he wasn’t lying to her or working within a metaphor. She, Chloe, Mazikeen, and Ella all begin to bond, leading to better stories as the various characters have friendships with each other instead of all relationships stemming from Lucifer.

Keeps getting better
The second season continued what was great about the first, and added to the mix Lucifer's mother, played by Battlestar Galactica alum Tricia Helfer, who proves she barely ages. She not only has the acting chops to pulls of a role that is a blend of comedy and drama, but can still pull off wearing the skin-tight outfits she was wearing a decade ago. The main theme is really about trying to put their family back together, with Lucifer being a reluctant holdout. The other main addition to the cast is Aimee Garcia as the new medical examiner who hugs freely. The main scene stealer this season is Lesley Ann Brandt who plays Maz. She strikes up a hilarious friendship with Linda and Trixie (the Halloween episode where she takes Trixie trick-or-treating is gold) and has a tension-filled relationship with Lucifer's mom. Of course, the other big storyline is the relationship between Lucifer and Decker, and why he loses his power around her. I will not say too much to avoid spoiling anything, but obviously, that part of the story is advanced throughout the season but is not always the focus. For those who get the blu-ray set, as was the case with the season one release it is a MOD set that has some extras. They consist of a portion of the comic-con panel (about 25 minutes worth) a 14-minute making-of feature, a gag reel, and then deleted scenes. A very good amount considering it is a MOD release. It also has a play-all mode that allows you to pick up where you leave off, even if it is in the middle of an episode. The show continues to be well written and acted. It is a great blend of comedy and drama, with a bit of action (although that is not the focus). The character relationships are great and the show continues to be clever and entertaining without bashing (at least in my opinion) religion. Which is difficult for a show with the devil as the main character. I definitely recommend it.

For those who love a slow burning romance and supernatural stuff, you should tune in.
Not much to say other than I love this show thanks to the great chemistry between the characters, especially the two leads (obviously). I like the humor (Maze is the best) and how this show doesn't take itself too seriously, it's very lighthearted dark humor...if that makes any sense? All the characters are endearing in their own way, even the little girl who plays Detective Decker's daughter (she is probably the only little girl I have ever watched on a show who actually pulls off "adorable" without making me want to roll my eyes, I love her). So if you dig the "will they won't they" shows, and/or supernatural shows you would probably like Lucifer. Personally, I don't care for cop procedural-type shows but honestly, the cop stuff takes a back seat to this very character driven show. Really the only point of the "bad guys" is to allow Lucifer to discover himself and who he is as a "man" as opposed to the "devil persona" that he adopted after his fall. Throughout the story, he basically observes humans and tries to understand their motivations for doing what they do and then apply it all to himself (as the true narcissist he pretends to be would do)...oh and he tries to seduce Chloe.... like, constantly. --MILD SPOILER ALERT--(although we shall see how the writers reintroduce those hilarious/cheesy one liners and sexual innuendo jokes after the whole "now they are gonna get together.....wait now he abandoned her and then rubbed his betrayal it in her face.... but now they are still gonna try to work together?! How the freak is Chloe seriously ok with him doing what he did because if that were me...oh HELL no!" direction the writers took. So I hope they can pull off bringing back the banter of those two without having it feel completely inappropriate after what he put Chloe through.--END OF MILD SPOILER. If you like shows like iZombie (I love that show), Grimm, Wynonna Earp (FIRST SEASON BECAUSE NOW ITS pseudo- lesbian, shallow millennial-type feminist GARBAGE), Buffy, and Once Upon a Time, and if you love a slow burning romances, then you will probably really like this show.

I LOVE THIS SHOW
I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!! It is incredible!!! The main character, LUCIFER, is so complex, he's nieve, he's like a child in a MEGA toy store!! He is discovering a whole new world he knows nothing about, it actually makes me want to study the Bible and learn more about some of the characters in the show and some of the other things mentioned but I just have to know more-- it's the Scientist in me, I've gotta know it all or I'll be so unhappy. Lucifer is also learning about the human world and is very charming and exciting and funny,, Reminds me a lot of Cary Grant. Hope I didn't give away too much info. If you watch it once you'll be hooked and my daughter studying theology at Columbia U. doesn't have a problem with it and neither do my Bible Belt Christian beliefs.

Diabolicamente divertente

Very good second season
Now we know that Lucifer has a mother too. And he doesn't like her. And he doesn't like his father either. But everybody knows that. I must say that I really like this tv-show. It has everything. I have just started to see season 3 and it looks promising. I can recommend this awesome tv-show.

One of the best show on TV right now!
Easily one of my favourite TV shows in recent years. Fantastic actors, the writing and story are both clever. The episodes flow nicely, nothing feels like filler. Tom Ellis is the perfect devil, and Lauren German makes a fantastic detective. Together they form a terrific team and they carry the show nicely. The supporting actors do an incredible job of making everything fit together smoothly. The cases they investigate are varied and interesting, nothing feels repetitive. Character development is well-paced, and the exploration of Lucifer developing as a character is done masterfully. The DVD quality is actually very decent. There are currently no listing for a blu-ray version on Amazon Canada (as of writing this review).
