Super bright LED flashlight
I own high-end flashlights from Surefire and Streamlight, but hurricane Irene convinced me I need a few more. This Maglite is substantially less expensive than the others I own, so I was expecting it to not be quite as capable - but nothing could be further from the truth.First, this thing is incredibly bright for an LED flashlight. It throws a well focused beam that seems nearly as bright as my Streamlight Ultra Stinger - a big flashlight based on a halogen bulb. It also has "high" (bright) and "low" (long battery life) modes. To my eye, the low setting isn't that much less than the high, but it gives you triple the battery time. It also has strobe and SOS (flashed out in Morse code) settings, but these aren't as important to me.Second, it's really well constructed of an aircraft grade aluminum alloy, with O-ring seals in all the right spots. It fits together solidly, and you get the sense it would make a good self-defense weapon if you ever needed it to take on that role. The only part I found somewhat substandard was the front lens, which flexes slightly to the touch and seems like it would crack or shatter if you hit it right. Still, being a popular brand (Maglite), I imagine it won't be that difficult to find repair parts should that be necessary. Finally, there's the performance. The Maglite can run on the included rechargeable battery pack, or three conventional "C" size alkaline batteries. You get slightly better performance from the alkalines, but of course the rechargeables are much more convenient. In my testing, three C batteries get me a beam that's about 10% brighter on both high and low settings. The alkalines also last longer: I get an amazing 25 hours on high, and about 75 hours on low. The rechargeables get you more like 8 hours on high, or 25 hours on low. Given the brightness from this unit, I find this to be stellar performance.About the only gripe I have is that you need to take the rechargeable batteries out of the flashlight to charge them...would have preferred a system like my Streamlight that lets you keep the fully assembled flashlight in the charger so that it will always be ready for use. Otherwise, this is a top-notch flashlight and definitely worth the price.Highly recommended!

Maglite continues to impress
You can't go wrong with this Maglite. I have a couple of them and just love them. Well built and solid and gives a good strong beam of light. Battery life if wonderful even on high setting. I like that I have the ability of running C batteries too if I wish. Nice to have a couple of packs on the shelf just in case power goes out for any length of time. I did buy an extra rechargeable battery for this light so I am never caught out in the dark. The charger is well built and feels of quality. I am very happy with purchase and use it almost every night on my 2 mile walk. Nice feeling of weight also if I ever needed it for self defense. Great product, and I am very pleased with this Maglite.Tom

Mag lite is well-known and trusted
Bought as a replacement flashlight for my husband. He had previously had the larger mag lite, which was great, but heavy to carry in his hunting bag. He loves the lighter smaller size for this purpose. The light is bright with a clear and distinct beam.

Amazon dropped the price right after Christmas!
The product is fine and our gift recipient loved the item. However, I am not pleased with Amazon to drop the price from $96 on 12/16/23, when I purchased, it to $60 right after Christmas! Very disappointed that Amazon did this!

I loved this awesome rechargeable flashlight so much that I bought ...
I loved this awesome rechargeable flashlight so much that I bought one for my daughter. I am a camp nurse/1st responder that gets called at all hours of the night deep in the national forest. I call this my "bear beater"! It has a nice bright light. It is not too heavy but heavy enough that I could knock someone silly if needed. I love that it is rechargeable so I don't have to waste batteries and worry about them. A single charge lasts a long time. I travel with this too. It is just fantastic.

Not Ready for Prime Time
I am home inspector and have owned Maglites for years. When the LED came out, I bought one and a few months after got a second. That was a mistake. To charge the flashlight, the battery must be removed. I thought this was just an inconvenience, but am learning there is more to it than that. Because I am using mine all day, I charge it every evening. The case in the LED is a thinner metal than the old halogen rechargeable. This makes it lighter - which is great. However, the battery compartment end cap screws on. The used a really strong spring on the cap to put pressure on the battery and make the electrical connection. So much so that it is actually difficult to get the cap to screw on. Because the case metal is thinner the cap threads are much finer than the halogen. Between the cap spring pressure, the fine treads, and taking the battery out daily to charge - I am seeing the threads wear out on the first one I bought. So much so that if I drop or bang the flashlight - the cap pops off because the threads no longer have enough bite. There are some great aspects to the flashlight, but with what I am seeing - I would not recommend this flashlight to anyone and would certainly not buy another.UPDATE: As I had predicted, the cap threads wore out to the point where the battery cap would not stay on. My second one is doing exactly the same thing. I sent the one back to Maglite with an explanation of what had happened. Mag's have a limited life time warranty. That was many months ago. The flashlight has disappeared from the face of the earth. Since the warranty center doesn't use an RMA, there is no way to track the flashlight. Very disappointing. Again, I would not recommend this flashlight to ANYONE.

AVERAGE
The first one i received was defective and sent it back, the second light worked however i was disappointed with its performance. I was expecting a much brighter beam from the lumen count. over all this is a light flashlight but i believe the lumen are exaggerated a bit, i have a stream-light with 120 lumen and it performs the same if not better at distance.
