It Not only relieves discomfort due to dry, irritated eyes, but also prevents further irritation. It features hydrocell technology, which enables hydration and maintains the volume of cells on the ocular surface. You may keep your contacts in upon application. Refresh reliever for contacts may also be used to lubricate and rewet soft and rigid gas permeable (RGP)* contact lenses and to cushion lenses prior to application. Silicone Acrylate and fluorosilicone Acrylate rigid gas permeable lenses are recommended for use with Refresh reliever for contacts. Consult your eye care practitioner to identify the lens you wear. **Q: Is this product closest in Refresh products to the Refresh Repair which was discontinued?**
A: I phoned Allergan, and they told me yes - it's just a new name for Refresh Repair.

**Q: Does this contain preservatives?  My doctor wants preservative free, but I can't tell what some ingredients like "stabilized oxychloro complex" are.**
A: Refresh Relieva contains PURITE® (stabilized oxychloro complex) is an oxidative-type preservative.  When exposed to light, Purite degrades to water, oxygen, sodium, and chlorine free radicals. 

Looking at several ophthalmology studies, Purite is antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral but has no significant effect on human ocular tissues (i.e., doesn't damage the ocular surface. Clinical trials have shown than Purite is a much gentler preservative than Quaternary Ammonium Compounds such as benzalkonium chloride aka BAK (found in Visine, Rohto, Clear Eyes) or Polyquad (Systane).

Of all the preservatives currently being used in eye drops, BAK is the worst. Don't ever choose a dry eye eye drop with BAK. The details are too long to describe here but you can easily search for what BAK does to your eye.

A: No, it’s better, it lasts longer. It lubricates better.

A: You're right; no difference in the ingredients.  10 ml bottle for relieva versus only 8 ml for relieva contacts.  A marketing thing.
