Nice ESP with a display

I purchased this as an option to connecting to Home Assistant via espHome it works great, I ended up with a different display for this project simply because of the look. This one looked fine, just not as clean as what I went with, now I need to find a new project for this. easy to use and works great, and to my surprise there is a magnet in the back cover so if I wanted to I can easily mount it on any metal surface

Love this

Been using it as a lottery miner and have been running for months, I love the display quality, build quality and also how quick it can reboot.

Excellent Performance, Great Screen

Excellent Performance, Great Screen, bought the unit with the soldered headers. Unless you are using a breadboard would recommend buying without them pre-soldered to make the unit able to fit into smaller project boxes.

THIS IS NOT A CONSUMER READY PRODUCT

After 20+ years of coding, hacking and developing, I can say with all certainty, THIS PRODUCT IS NOT READY FOR CONSUMERS. You want it because of the screen which is pretty much the only thing that doesnt work in a fluid process. You'll spend days trying to get the back light on, then you will discover you pretty much have to write your own drivers. Avoid the S3 until the creators can provide at least a basic functionality. The only thing I ever saw on this screen was the demo it came with. The drivers referenced DO NOT work with this model, they are for the old ttgo and will not work properly. pretty much everything in the docs tells you to setup the old unit, and that config immediately tells you IT'S NOT AN ESP32, IT'S AN ESP32S3, so it's an intergalactic fail. Dont buy if you can't write your own drivers. Just get a 8266, you wont have a screen anyway.

Worked great, no problems

Works just fine. Using PlatformIO, no problems. Nice clear display. Watch the download from hithub, it's HUGE. But you can delete a lot of it.I'll probably buy a couple more. I do need a big display though

Nice dev module

This is a nice module to explore MCU apps and was easy to get the display working.

A very feature rich esp32s3 devkit at a good price

All in all this is a fun and useful package with a handful more built in hardware than theESP32-S3-DevKitC-1. The unit I received however was in less than stellar condition but ill get to that in a bit. Setup and uploading was pretty easy in both Arduino IDE and VSCode, I was sad to see that it requires a physical button combination to get it into upload mode and IDEs struggle to auto connect so you will have to pick the device each time it powers down.WIFI 2.4G works great. The LCD screen looks fantastic and is protected with a clear plastic guard on the sides. You'll also most likely want to get familar with the TFT_eSPI libs if you are looking to do more graphical work on this device.According to the JST GH connector on the device along with the battery charging module it has built in it should charge and use your choice of 3.7V input. Again sadly it seemed the module was missing C21, a 100nF capacitor rendering the feature inoperable. I confirmed this via schematics and online photos. So bummer...The second issue I had run into while testing was GPIO14, the tactile switch called KEY. After some troubleshooting it seemed this part was also inop. I didn't see any visible reason but the LCD does cover a large portion on the top of the device so it may have been under that. I also wasn't going to bother hunting the issue down with a multi-meter as this was going to be a returned item. Bummer..Other than the most likely isolated issues, this is a very awesome devkit if you are looking to create UI's for IOT projects or anything that needs a better than subpar display. Its packed with features, includes more than satisfactory specs(I've always enjoyed the S3 series). The pin selection is somewhat limiting but is a non-issue as its not designed to be a deployed unit.Lets hope the replacement on its way will be in working order. Excited to get back into it
